Here's a thread dedicated to a drug that has helped us overcome periods of fatigue, drowziness and brought us to a sense of well-being!

I'd like to hear some pre-pharmacists/pharmacists opinions on this drug / how much coffee/ tea you drink (i.e during exam week or any day).

I used to drink at least 2 cups of coffee every day, and some days I'd drink up to 5 cups. I'm the kind of person that can drink a cup right before bed and have no trouble sleeping, though. My coffee habit kind of sloughed off when I dropped the nicotine habit (will be a year on the 11th!! 😱 ). Now, I only drink coffee occasionally, and I try to opt for hot tea when available.

Requiem-

Caffeine is for girlymen! Crush up some Adderall and snort it!- (watch your PCAT scores jump 20%!) Just kidding.....

OBVIOUSLY, I'm joking.
But you bring up a good point and a topic that I have not seen addressed on this forum. I am not sure of the rest of the country, but here in Gainesville, FL, Adderall and Ritalin use are off the map. It angers me, through 4 years of undergrad as a completely drug free student, to see so many compete with an illegal advantage. My only concillation is that someday this will catch up with them. In the meantime its not fair, but I guess thats what our world is coming too....
Sad.

Sorry,

No coffee here.

there is only one kind of skp - and that's skp w/ caffeine

(few days 0 cups, some days the whole dang pot, most days 1-2 cups)

lately I've been having to drink alcohol just so i can sleep at night (to counteract the caffeine)

its a sick, sick world

It doesn't seem to work with me. No matter how many shots of coffee I take, I still get sleepy at my 8am lecture. Red bull doesn't work either...nothing seems to work. I guess I just need more sleep.

How can students use drugs to stay up? 1. illegial 2. unfair advantage 3. it'll mess up your body.

Oh well, like what other people on sdn said, I hope those drugs catch up with those people.

i like starbuck's frappuccinos. yummy 😀

I always start my day with two big mugs. I may have more, but two mugs is my minimum to start the day.

Congrats on the nicotine FutureRxGal. I've gone only 8 months and I could sure use a smoke with finals coming up.

Anyone got any tips to help with my energy levels? teas, energy drinks that work, is it just because dining hall food is turning me into a lazy and unhealthy college student?

... 😴 <---how I feel all the time.

Well I can riddle off words like sleep, exercise, nutrition etc but they're no fun!

coffee is your key!!! 😀

seriously though ordinary tea and coffee are stimulants, and stimulants provide an opposite affect to your fatigue!

Simple logic 😛

try taking apart plugged-in appliances barefoot on a slightly damp floor
seems to work for me

I used to drink about a two-liter of Mountain Dew every day...that was spring semester, when I had six classes, a full time job, and I had to commute to school five times a week (35-40 minutes one way). My job starts M-F at 5 am, so I had to have some caffeine. Lately, I've been trying to cut back (1-2 20 oz. bottles/day). Since I only have two classes and a full-time job, I've been pretty successful. You just have to get more sleep! 😉

man you are one crazy norwegian!

I only drink coffee at midnight, when the moment is not right.....

"Well she wants to be the Queen
Then she thinks about her scene
Pulls her hair back as she screams
I don't really wanna be the queen!" 😀

I drink 2-3 Dr. Peppers a day, but I don't really feel any effects from caffeine. I tried to go on a Dr. Pepper "diet", just because I don't drink enough water (actually I don't drink any water...my kidneys are probably two huge stones.)...but I didn't feel any different. Anyway that lasted about 1 day. 😉

LOL Awesome

I believe coffee is capable of staining teeth to a darker color, right? I wish that weren't so; I'd have at least a cup everyday.

How can you prevent the staining, anyone knows? or use something that will lessen the staining later on? :meanie:

spend lots of $$$ on those teeth whitening systems...they actually work, but then again the more you use it the more the your teeth disenigrate....

You won't drink coffee because of teeth? oh dear!

If you're that paranoid brush your teeth after you have a cup in the morning / evening. My teeth are far far from yellow and I drink coffee/ tea everyday. Just do a good job brushing lol

I liked that ode to coffee!

I didn't say I don't drink coffee; just not as much as I'd like to. 😉 And when you're sitting in your car drinking a cup of coffee, it's kinda hard to brush your teeth afterwards 😀 🙄

Well 2005pharmd you do know the "Rip, Slip, Brush!" right? 😀

hey bananaface how late were you up last night? mocha frappes at 12:30am, must've been a hard nights study haha.

you know it's exam week when you start to drink coffee double-fisted

I went to bed at 5am, with my alarm set for 6:10. Somehow I hit snooze and the next thing I knew it was 6:30. 🙄

Thank you. I quit cold turkey (not counting the use of patches for the first three days) and I live with a smoker. It does get better, which is the good news. However, the craving for a smoke, though it does occur sporadically, will never go away. I've talked with several people who have quit for 6 years, 9 years, 21 years - they all say the same thing. There's a random moment in time that triggers the urge for a smoke, but it usually passes just as fast as it appears. I have this occasionally, and I'm always startled by it, since I know that I don't ever want to smoke again.

Good luck to you with your smoking cessation. My advice is just to keep busy and always have gum around. 🙂 :luck:

Tooth whitening systems have absolutely no deleterious effect at all on your teeth.

I might expand on this if the thread is still alive after finals wrap up, but for now I don't really have time. I'm about to go to sleep for four hours before spending another four finishing cramming for my 8am final integrated exam. For now, just take my word for it. Vive la professional school! 🙄

oh you dentists...

Just bump it right up when you get back.
Good Luck on exams, Bill!
