Does anyone know the difference between the Cal State Apply and PTCAS application?

Most california schools are through PTCAS, some require that you also fill out CAL APPLY. Their application should have instructions if you should fill out cal apply before or after interview updates. It doesn't open until Oct 1st so submit ptcas before cal apply for schools that have oct 1st deadline.
SDSU is just cal apply.
