Hello

This is my first time posting on these boards but I have reading multiple threads that have been posted on here. I am entering my third year at California state university Fullerton and I just finished reading a post about the chances of cal-state students getting accepted into dental school and it did not sound very good. I have read posts by multiple posters here that sound like they know much about how to increase the chances to get accepted into dental school. I have a 3.48 GPA ( I know not very good) but I am determined to study much harder and be much more focused and increase my GPA. I have aced all of my bio courses but got a B+ in my first gchem course. Now my question is, is it advisable to transfer to a UC or should I just stay in the cal-state that I am currently in and work hard to boost my GPA and get a good DAT score. Also is it better to shadow a dentist or volunteer at a hospital or to do both at the same time. Thank you in advance for the advice.

going to a CSU isn't going to help you get into dental school, true...but that GPA will not help you more.

Do yourself a favor and stop by the health profession office and see Dr goode. She will tell you all about the people who got in. We have got a lot of people getting into good dental schools.

I graduated from CSUF and got into UCSF and I had no research experience (I also interviewed at Columbia and some other dental schools). Just go to the Health profession office and see for yourself how many of CSUF students got into dental school in 2009 (as far as I know, I and one my classmates got into UCSF, two of my other classmates got into UCLA, one into UOP and three into USC, and few others got into out of state schools). your are in one of the best schools if you are going to pursue a career in health profession. I encourage you to take as many science courses as you can and try to get A in all of them (this is what I did) to bring your GPA higher. where you went to school does not really matter, and even if it did, you are graduating from a good one (of course your DAT score counts too). best of luck to you.
