Does anyone here remember what I think is the most commonly asked PCAT question. This came up on the practice tests, but I never bothered to write it down thinking it would be in my calc book.

Its something like when you fill up a cylinder with water how does the height change as a function of radius or something like that?

i am not sure i understand your question, but here goes...if the amount of water in the cylinder remains constant, then as the radius gets smaller the height of the water will increase. the cylinder itself will get taller and narrower so the height relative to where you started will be higher. hope this helps.

i took the test over the weekend . in that question use dv/dt=(pi)r^2h in which r is constant and u differentiate just h which is dh/dt .if i remember correctly they gave me the radius and since radius of the cylinder remains conctant u don't differentiate radius. and change in rate of volume dv/dt was also given. so..it's done.

you should know related rates for the pcat, i took it last year and was suprised at how much calc was on it. i would say it's about 50% calculus and trig.

50%? wondering if others experienced the same? What was the difficultity level of the calc? As for the trig, is most of that being in calc problems such as derivatives or were there solely trig problems?

thanks
