calcitonin function is
1 decrease Ca and Phosphorus in blood
2 decreasae Ca and increase Phosphorus in blood

in decks it is number 1... .but i am confused cause usually there is an opposite function on both for example parathyroid and vit D increase and decrease Phosphorus .

Ans: 1 is correct. Its antagonistic to PTH (wrt ca+2 metabolism mainly). But if u look at it closely, PTH causes P04-2 excretion as it acts on the kidneys but also increases the P04 absorption from intestine, resorption from bone (so, there is a compensatory net excretion of P04). On the other hand, calcitonin decreases the serum Ca+2 levels and also decreases the absorption of P04 from the intestines and reabsorption from the tubules leading to low serum P04 again.
P.S: I gathered this info from wiki and decks.
