Calculating AA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
its the average of all the sections except PA rounded up if over 0.5 or rounded down. so a 19.6 average would be a 20 but a 19.4 would be a 19.

on a side note orgo questions weight much more than chem and bio..

thats not true. unless a particular school likes to focus more on orgo, thats a different story. but as far as the grading of the DAT goes, AA is an average of the 5 scores and nothing more. TS score on the other hand is a standardized score of how many questions out of 100 you get correct. So any combination of getting a 75 out of 100 correct on a particular version of the DAT will yield the score - whether you miss 25 ochem and get EVERYTHING else right, or you miss some combination of bio, gc, and oc for a total of 75 wrong. hope that makes sense

The Academic Average just includes 5 scores: quantitative reasoning, biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and reading comprehension.

The Total Science just includes biology, general chemistry & organic chemistry.

The PAT is a separate score. Most people would list their PAT, TS, and AA.

So in the sense, a really high/low PAT score wont have an effect on anything?

i wouldn't say it wouldnt affect "anything" - it just has no difference on your AA. If you come out with a 20 AA and a 15 PA, your might want to retake, even if it is only to improve your PA. Schools look at PAT differently from all your other scores, and how much "weight" it gets depends entirely on the school. Some schools give it way too much importance and some schools could care less

Ooooh No!!! Trust me your PAT score could make it or break it for you. score 24+ on your PAT and do average on all the other sections and you're more than likely to get in. Score below 18 on PAT and do 20+ on everything else, and that PAT score will most likely have a negative impact on your application!
