Hi guys. This may have been asked before, but how does AMCAS calculate the BCPM GPA based on course load. I.e., if I'm trying to figure out what my science GPA would be and I have a class with a lab (like bio I for example), does that count as GPA x 4 credits, GPA x 1 credit, or (as my undergrad considered it), GPA for that class x 1.5 credits (my undergrad didn't provide separate GPAs for the lab sections for physics, bio, or orgo). Also, if I have just a lab section (which was half a credit at my undergrad versus the normal 1 credit for class), how does that calculate in? Given my paultry grades in classes with labs relative to other science classes, this ends up making a decent difference.

Thanks!
Tiffany

For the most part, it is calculated the same way your undergrad GPA is. Courses count the way your undergrad counts them - so if your undergrad combines lab and course grades, so will AMCAS, and if your undergrad doesn't weight lab courses any differently than other courses, AMCAS will do the same. The only place where the AMCAS GPA may be different is if your undergrad doesn't factor in grades on your transcript into your GPA - like for example a semester of study abroad grades will be included in your AMCAS GPA even if they are not included in your schools calculation, or if you retook a course and your school only counts the most recent, both will be included on AMCAS. If your undergrad transcript is pretty straight forward, it should be the same.
