Calculating RVU's

I am currently in the job hunt and the places I am looking at are all RVU based. They say they pay 28 dollars per RVU. I found this link on ACEP's website that shows the conversion from CPT to RVU's.

When employers calculate the RVUs that we will be paid, do they use the work RVUs or the total RVUs( work + PE). How many RVUs per hour does the average doc generate? There is an RVU for procedures or are they flat fees? Is there a link to find reimbursement for procedures?

It depends on how many patients you take care daily, and how you bill.

For example, A friend of mine works 7 on 7 off, average rounds 15 patients/day and does 1-2 admissions/day, earn about 600 wRVU/month. Provided that you dictate very carefully so 95% are billed at the highest level.

More detail: if you have 15 patients to round, and do 2 admission, you may get:

15 X2 = 30 RVU or 30*25=750$

2*3.86 = 7.72 or 7.72*30 = 231.6

So you get 750+231.6 = 981.6 in that day.

25$/RVU is too low.
 
I would hope that they would credit you with the total RVUs.

For the year up to November, I averaged 9.12 RVUs/hr and saw around 2.6-2.7 pt/hr.

So at $28/RVU, that would be about $255/hr. Volume/acuity matters. The other important question to answer is what do they pay for? Malpractice? Do they pay for the billing? Are you basically an independent contractor?
