Hey everyone. How do you calculate the science gpa? Is it pre-requisite courses only? Or do you total all of your science courses... ex: genetics, biochem, anatomy...

I'm preparing to apply for 2010. Thanks.

all science classes...i believe math is included as well, but not sure. But I know all biochem, anatomy, upper level sciences count---

Thanks geoff.

Anyone else know about mathematics being averaged into science gpa?

Also, some schools (1 in particular) have really low average gpa's for 2007 (3.0 range). Why is that? Is it a classic example of podiatry not being as selective or does it vary year by year?

it is generally because they are getting lesser applicants than MD and DO programs, but it is changing quickly as more people realize the benefits of being a podiatrist and do not look at it as a last resort ( as myself) and have scores and gpas to compete for spots in MD or DO programs.

each school varies, but you can find overall pod applicant and matriculant GPA and MCAT scores on the aacpm website

also, for some reason science GPA's are lower than overall. not sure why and it doesnt make sense. i am interviewing now and science gpa is much much more important than overall. i only had a 3.00 overall but have a 3.5 science---(non-traditional though--2.85 undergrad, 3.5 post bacc gpas).

Math is NOT included in the science GPA for pod schools. Thus, do not use it when calculating your science GPA.

I hope you know the pod application is quite easy overall (especially compared to MD/DO/DDS schools). You don't need to be doing GPA calc's a year before your application (class of 2014) is even available.

Anyone know anything about Samuel Merrit Pod school? I am most interested in them, mainly because of the location. I know its expensive.

Anyone know how many people apply to Samuel Merrit? It says they accept ~40-48/year but nothing about the number who apply.

Do a search and look at the interview feedback area. The most recent post is about my interview day.

They accept more than 40-48 but those are the amount that usually decide to matriculate there. All schools accept more than will actually matriculate. I know CSPM is quite stringent with the 48 number though. They had like 51 people with deposits last year and ended up removing a few conditional acceptances in the end.
