I was doing some trig question for math and I can't get the final answer because I don't know how simplify.
ex:how do u get how do u find the theta w/o using the calculator for this question ?
theta=arctan(3)
Are you sure it's not arctan(squareroot(3))?? arctan(3) is 71 (from calc) and there's no way they would expect u to have that memorized.
This question is basically asking you what angle will give tangent (of that angle) =3.
So There are some basic angles that u need to know their trig values. (aka 30/45/60 usually, 0,90,180,270 should be obvious, I'm not sure if u need to know 15 and 75 for DAT but doubt it)
And really knowing sin/cos of 30 and 45 will give you everything else for 30/45/60. Ex:
sin(30)=1/2, cos(30)=root(3)/2.
Then you can find tan(30)=(1/2)/(root(3)/2) = 1/root(3)=root(3)/3
then cot(30)=1/tan(30)=root(3)
For 60, just switch sin with cos, and tan with cot: sin = root(3)/2, cos=1/2, etc
for 45, sin=cos=root(2)/2 and thus tan=cot=1.
