For some reason I just CANNOT get this problem! What am I missing??? Can someone explain this to me PLEASE?

EK is started on the following volume restricted TPN formula and is instructed to remain NPO.
Dextrose 20% (3.4 kcal/g)
Amino Acids 7% (4 kcal/g)

His current actual body weight is 65 kg and his height is 5'10''
His nutritional needs are 25 kcal/day/day

What volume (in mL) of his TPN formula would provide the desired daily calories?

I figured out his total kcal/day but then have no idea what to do after that to get ml!

I'm pretty sure you're missing data. The question would probably ask how if the AA are included in the nutritional caloric requirements. Or the question would ask how much AA/protein is needed. FYI AA are not usually included in TPN caloric needs.

This was all the info they gave! 🙁

If this is the only info they gave, the answer should be 3385 ml.

EK's total calorie requirement is 1625 kcal/day
Dextrose : 20 grams in 100 ml = 68 kcal /100 ml
Amino acids : 7 grams in 100 ml = 28 kcal/100ml
In total 96 kcal/200ml
The volume of TPN formula for 1625 kcal = 3385 ml OR 1692.5 ml of Dextrose and AA solution each

This answer was there in the options? I am not sure whether this is the right method or not. Correct me if I am wrong!

Yea, there has to be something missing here
You can't assume how much of each component they want to include in the TPN, unless there is a standard split that I don't know of...

I just took pre naplex and had this question. there was a glitch and the box to the right had the same box from the previous question (a case that had nothing to do with this question).

99% sure on real naplex you would have more information

I got 98, I'm taking Naplex tomorrow. A lot of random compounding questions on that test though...

I am just looking over the math equations so i know i know them and then i'm done studying

Hi, I have a question about a calculations problem that I cannot seems to solve. Maybe someone here can? It goes like this:
A 68 kg patient is receiving dopamine drip 400 mg in 250 mL D5W at a rate of 15 mL per hour. What dose is this patient receiving in mcg/min? The answer choices are: 4.3, 5.9, 7.2, 8.1, 9.7
I don't know what I'm doing wrong because I don't get any of the answer choices when I do the calculation.....
Thanks!
