Dear SDN Members,

Are we allowed to use a calculator (what kind? scientific only...? TI's...?) on the PCAT exam this coming Saturday, 1/24/09??

thanks,
andy

hey, you're not allowed to use a calculator at all...i kno it sucks but i found the calculations were easy enough to be done quickly on paper.

I heard there will be a periodic table in the room...just of the elements and their weights...right? I mean do they really expect everyone to memorize the ENTIRE periodic table by heart? 🙄

No calculators, no periodic table of elements. If the question requires you to find the molar mass, they'll provide the atomic mass for the elements in the equation in the question.

You should be able to know some of the elements' mass off the top of your head, i.e. hydrogen, oxygen, carbon. These were dealt with many times in your gen chem class and should be stuck to your mind. Good luck!

I do know most of the weights...I actually need the periodic table for questions like this one for example (from the Cliffs book!) What element has the ground state electronic configuration [Xe]6s^24f^7?
a)Eu
b)Gd
c)Am
d)Sm
Or
Which gas will behave more like an ideal gas?
a) H2S
b)Ch3OH
c)Xe
d) Ar
or
Any questions about Beta or Alpha Decays of Uranium or any of the other heavier metals...I need the periodic table for those.

Its questions like this that makes me wonder if they will give me a periodic table for the PCAT. I know all the upper elements but any of the lower ones or radioactive ones you can forget it. 🙄

They will give you what you need to solve the problem.
