My Biology degree is on a pre-professional track, the math requirements are precalc and stats. I know most pre-meds at other schools require calculus and even mine does now in the new requirements they came out with for the new freshman. So my question is if taking calculus a plus for med school because if not I would rather take pre calc and get a definite A then have a possible GPA drop with a 5 credit calculus class.

If you don't want to take calculus, don't take it. It wont help or hurt you in medical school.

Most DO schools don't require Calc, although many MD programs do. No real need to take it. May help you with Physics if you haven't taken that yet, but I survived just fine without it.

Yeah I'm in physics 2 now wishing I had a calc refresher, but thanks. Any schools have calc in the curricula once you get to med school?

I don't know about many, I think only some Ivies and the Texas schools require calc.

A lot of physics courses are algebra based anyway. I would avoid calc based physics at all costs

No DO school requires calc. Only a few MD schools require it (and even so, you can be interviewed & accepted by them before having taken it -- as long as it is completed before matriculation). I have never seen any use for taking this course (unless you love math). It will not help you in algebra-based physics (only basic trig is used, which can be learned in 15 mins via a Google search).

At my school the calc based physics has a far more lenient curve in the class. I got mostly As in it despite having B exam averages (class average hovered around a D/C-)
