Calculus?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes I use it every day...I am constantly needing to calculate the derivative of some pharmacokinetics equation and to integrate and graph the biochemical actions of various drugs.

Ok fine no you don't need calculus. ever. There is this magical button at the top of the forum that says "search"...it is quite amazing, it will actually, get this, search the previous threads for topics of your chosing!

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying in the second portion of your reply?
The point of my question is to point out that some schools seem to find a way to teach students who do not have a calculus background.

calcu-who?

that's in that big pile of information I've binged and purged from the 'ol memory banks...

Just make sure you know algebra. No calculus required.

Schools don't require calculus because it's necessary for the curriculum. They require it because one indicator of an individuals analytical/problem solving skills is their performance in calculus. Calculus is to mathematics as organic chemistry is to biology/chemistry - a weeding ground for the less capable. It's not a fun fact of life, but it's true.

While you might not need it for class, the understanding of concepts in calculus and futher math will be very usefull in any research you do.

Quite right. You're not required to retain it, just to prove that you can do it.

I can think of some research (especially statistics) situations where it might be helpful to know the calculus behind some of the formulas, but for pre-clinical basic science courses, nope.
