Does anyone know which California schools welcome out of state residents? I heard that UCSF might not and that USC does, but what about LLU, UCLA, and UOP? Also, as far as Florida goes, does University of Florida accept out of staters? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

pretty straight forward,

The state schools generally don't take out of state students. Getting into UCLA, UCSF and UF is pretty difficult out of state if you don't have rocking stats.

USC, UOP, LLU and Nova (hope i didnt forget one) take out of state students so long they meet the criteria.

But for sake of arguement pretend that the state schools dont take out of staters (itll save you time and money.......and heartache😉)

UF reserves about 8 spots for out-of-state students

at least that is what we were told during the interview...

well as for what UF says, don't take it too seriously...........

no offense to anyone, but once you get to know the people there, they even tell you stuff you wish you didn't know.......

take it with a grain of salt............hate to put down any program but ive seen/heard/withnessed too much.

Selection Factors for UCLA

The Admissions Committee takes into account:

Scholastic record
Aptitude for science demonstrated by academic record and the DAT
Academic performance on DAT, in particular, the PMAT portion of the exam to determine spatial aptitude
English composition performance on DAT, especially for English as a Second Language applicants
Manner in which scholastic record was achieved, i.e., course load, breadth of the courses of study, extracurricular activities, and work experience
Substantive letters of recommendation.
Personal Interview
---from UCLA website

SO residency is not listed there, and I checked their medical school website, saying no perference is given to instate applicants, so I think UCLA should be a nice pick!

As an out of state applicant, it will be very difficult to gain acceptance to either of California's public schools unless you're an extremely competitive applicant. UCLA typically accepts only 5% of its class from out-of-state, and UCSF is somewhere around 15%. The average GPAs and DATs for both schools are already high (3.6, 22 Academic, 20 PAT for UCLA; 3.5, 21, 19 for UCSF) and as an out-of-stater your marks will need to be a tad higher to secure a spot. It's definitely doable, but if you have your heart set on going to California you should also apply to the private schools there, like USC, as back-ups. USC accepts about 50% nonresidents, UOP about 25% nonresidents. I'm not sure about Loma Linda. In general, it's like shootin4par said: public schools are pretty hard to get into from out-of-state while most private schools don't care.

Best of luck 🙂
