California Homeless Discharge Law

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I love how they also never complain about the Federal Government taking tax dollars from Californians and sending it to the same states that complain the loudest. CALIFORNIA IS SOCIALISTIC AND SOCIALISM IS BAD... (now please give us more money from the Federal Government so that we don't have to pull up our boot straps fund our own state government).

Yes, this plan is stupid, but there's a reason it's "California Dreaming" and not "Alabama Dreaming." That's not even commenting on states like Texas, where the most cherished place in Texan history is where a bunch of Mexicans killed a bunch of illegal immigrants.
Except not. California gets back almost exact $1 for every dollar in Federal taxes the state as a whole pays.

Alabama, according to that, is 1.99. It also includes "wages of federal employees" which is a bit of a BS metric.

Of course when you look at the Tax Foundation... those even coastal elitist states tend to do the best boot strapping too. I really wish that the flyover states would put their hands to work, instead of picking the Federal Government's pocket.

That's not the measure you want to look at. My link is actual dollar amounts which is more accurate.

Way to bash all flyover states. People come to cali for the weather not the government. Same with businesses. Why do you think tech places are migrating out of cali. Who wants to pay ridic taxes when you can get just as good quality in less taxed states. What do you all exactly do with all that tax money?

It’s ok I’m glad docs make socks in coastal states we make way more in the poor picker lands people call fly over states

I'll stop "bashing flyover states" the second that flyover states stop pretending that their the 'real 'merica" and everyone else not exactly like them are completely wrong and not America.

I can agree with this but it’s prob more rural areas that think this not just the entirety of non coastal entities

And iirc, those numbers don’t count the “loss” from state income tax deductions
As only 7 states don't have a state-level income tax and the other 43 all have different tax levels/brackets its easier to just ignore it.

I'd also be surprised if it made a huge difference.

7-12% adds up

I'd be curious to see a breakdown of states with no income tax yet which tend to have higher other taxes -- property, for instance, or how CoL / regional income compares. Always wondered how much it comes out in the wash (or not) but never really looked for data.

Not sure but that’s not exactly what i’m talking about

I’m referencing witht the prior federal income tax deduction for state income tax the fed was basically giving up money to “cover” the states with income tax. That is usually not accounted for in the “but our state pays more than it takes” claims

I think if you want you can save a bunch. If your state has no income tax but high property tax, buy a small house and a not-expensive car.

But it has to be a conscious effort I suspect.

I live in CA. The taxes suck. One way or the other, Uncle Sam gets your taxes. I complain because the share is higher here, but like my Dad told me to do, I just pay my damn taxes.

"Flyover" states can actually be really nice. I lived in them for 9 years and loved it. I'd consider staying if my family lived there. Aside from owning a home with a monthly mortgage/tax/insurance payment under $800/month, I actually found it to be a really nice place to live. Sure, they have their issues, but what place doesn't. Winter is really not that bad, and it's also good insurance against the zombie apocalypse.

I also found most people in those Midwestern states had nice things to say about CA and really liked to visit. They didn't want to live there because of the COL, but they rarely picked on Californians.

Californians and Texans seem to think everyone wants to be like us or attack us. I felt that way when I was young Californian. We really aren't that big a deal--most Americans just want to live their lives.
