Hi there!

I'm about to start my 4th year and I am trying to figure out what my options might be to match into a CA IM program. I am from CA but currently at school on the east coast. My step 1 score was a little disappointing at 232, and I am currently studying for Step 2 with the hopes of doing much better.

I'm more interested in an academic program but would consider Scripps/Kaiser as well. I know that UCSF and Stanford are quite competitive, but how about UCSD, UCLA, USC, UC Irvine?

I have a decently impressive research resume and an average amount of volunteer experiences. I have honored about half of my rotations, but not IM unfortunately.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

What are your goals when matched at IM? My opinion having interviewed at some in the #2/#3 tier. Thi is based on my opinion of competitiveness, match lists, and perceived tier.

1. USCF>Stanford>=UCLA>UCSD
2. USC/UCI/Cedars-Sinai>UCLA Harbor/OV.
3. The rest

Pretty obvious. Most would agree. The only thing some people would be surprised is that USC is not up there given the strength of it's undergrad. USC is actually a similar residency experience to UCLA Harbor for several reasons. You'll soon be sick of these discussions before long.
