Dear all,

I am mentoring a pre med student who has received acceptances to two MD schools noted in the title and one DO school, also noted above. The two MD schools have yet to receive full accreditation. I believe CNU is step 2 of 3. Midwestern afaik is accredited.

With regard to future residency matching and career success (Southern California desired) what would one advise.? That is, does the MD rather than DO trump the accreditation issue?

I believe CNU does not accept FAFSA but are the private loan programs a lot more disadvantageous?

Go to AZCOM

CNU's deficits have been well discussed in these fora.

CalHS is too new and appears to be too limited in rotations sites.

CUSM (CalMed) would probably be the best choice in this situation. Note: CNU does not (and does not plan to) offer federal loans. CalMed on the other hand has submitted an application for federal loan approval which should allow their students to receive said loans in the near future. The MD from a California school would likely be advantageous for this student's career goals.

CalHS isn’t one of the schools, it’s CUSM, and I would recommend CUSM. MD > DO, and CUSM > CNU. Plus, it’s the only choice in socal where the student wants to match. Also, AZCOM is very expensive.

My apologies, I just noticed that OP had 2 MD accepts. I thought the s/he was referring to the new DO school. CalUSH.

CalU Med is a new MD school, and is fine. So, OP, I suggest them over AZCOM

CUSM is the best bet for future residency match out of all the options. Its new campus is set to open for this year's entering class, it is an MD, and they will hopefully be available to offer government loans sooner rather than later.
