I hope everybody is doing fine with their process of application. As an applicant to california schools, I would like to know in which stage of application you are? I have submitted my Pharmcas application and only Loma-Linda supplemental. Which stage of application are you guys in, and what timeline do you suggest as the best time to complete all of the process?

I am also a California applicant but I am also applying to out of state schools. I submitted my PharmCAS early to mid July and I submitted everything already to the rolling admission schools, UOP, Touro and USC. I am not applying to Western, Loma Linda or CNCP.

I am working on the other applications, I am in the progress of perfecting my essays. I just have one more essay to write and they're all going to go through a drafting process because they need to be perfect!

I think for rolling admission school, it's best to complete everything as soon as possible, definitely September at the latest. For the other schools, I would take your time and submit everything at least a week before the deadline.

I'm applying to UCSD and UCSF, thats it in cali. Neither are rolling, and they aren't due until November. Pharmcas is done, and supps are mostly done, I just keep rewriting essays. From what I heard, finish and submit ASAP though. The sooner the better

Good job! Do you mean everything is better to be completed by September or by the end of September?

Does it mean it for rolling admission schools, submitting earlier is better than writing a perfect essay?

Hmm well it's always good to submit it earlier but you always want a good essay too! You don't want to turn in crappy work and have bunch of mistakes early because they probably won't be too happy. I have been working on the rolling admission school essays in May and now I am focusing on other stuff. I have spent a lot of time on my essays. Just get as much done as you can and spend sufficient time. But there's going to be a point where you edit and edit so many times that maybe it's time to turn in because someone is going to find a stupid thing wrong w/ it but it doesn't mean the essay is bad, it's just different interpretations of writing styles.

Good luck and manage your time wisely! 🙂 👍

If I had to choose, I would pick a better essay over early submission.
thats my $.02

In the case of USC and TJL, I submitted ASAP. I took a bit longer with my UCSF application and supp., but definitely could've put more time into it, I think. =/

Oh well, we shall see...

Wow everyone is so on top of things. I have yet to turn in PharmCas. I'm working on the PharmCas personal statement, as well as brainstorming and hammering out things for the UCSF app. I have a long ways to go still....

No hurry for UCSF really. I did USC and TJL faster because they're on rolling admissions, and in particular, TJL's August 1st Tier 1 deadline was pounding in my head since the middle of June when PharmCAS came online, LOL.

One of the other volunteers that I work with just started her PS for UCSF and isn't worried.

Well, I'm also applying to USC, which is rolling admissions, which is what I'm worried about. I'm applying to USC, UCSD, and UCSF, as well as some other non-CA schools, but those don't really matter until later, as the earliest deadline I have is in December for those.

Well, going back to someone's question, I think it's better to write a good essay than turn it in early, but it really depends on the strength of your application. If you're really strong, I think they'll probably overlook an average/weaker essay, but if you're overall weak AND you turn in a bad essay, well, you're screwed. Then again, rolling admissions means as you turn it in later, the stronger the accepted applicants get, so ... really, throw the die, it's up to you to decide.

Yea, USC is rolling, but we don't know HOW rolling. Like TJL's rolling dates are right there in print for us to see, but USC's is a hidden deadline...

I'm kind of behind compared to most people on this forum as well. I probably would've been even more lagging if I weren't such a frequent stalker of the SDN forums though. I turned in PharmCAS in late July and only turned in one supplemental, USC because it's rolling and I reeeally want to get an interview there. I'm working on Western right now and I'll probably turn in Touro within two weeks.

PS, passion, what does "TJL" stand for? o_o

Thomas J. Long, UoP's pharmacy school.

Sorry, it's a habit I've formed because my wife has been going through law schools for the past few mos. preparing to choose which one to go to and they all go by their names, like UC Berkeley's law school is called "Boalt Hall", UCSF is "Hastings Hall", etc. Kinda like how UCSD is Skaggs School of Pharmacy... I dunno... bad habit I suppose, lol.

I try to catch it when I can. Sorry for the confusion. 😕

Haha, no, I was just curious because I'm ignorant about the specific names for professional schools 😳 thanks for the clarification!

Good luck 2010!

Looks like they didn't change the essay topics for ucsf. How are you guys doing on the human condition essay?

Haha. That's actually my favorite one because I can actually share my views about life with the admissions committee which is pretty cool.

It's actually UC Hastings, a separate UC school from UCSF that also happens to be situated in SF, not UCSF Hastings hall. Don't mean to me the-know-it all, but I had a friend that went there and she would go on this killing spree if anyone ever reffered to UC Hastings as UCSF. It gives me giggles just to think about her. Ahhh, some people

Ah, fair enough, no worries... I did not know that, and I don't think Tara does either, since she's not applying to Hastings. I assumed (bad idea) that since Boalt Hall was UC Berkeley's school, and King Hall was UC Davis's school, and McGeorge was University of the Pacific, continued ad nauseum, that then logically, Hastings would be UC San Francisco's school. Seems to make sense... But then again, many things in life do not.

Thanks for the correction!

Haha the school I'm attending splits anatomy and physiology into 4 courses, and there is no way I finish the sequence by summer '10, with all the other classes I'm taking.

🙁 UCSF requires anatomy and physiology

ucsf only requires physiology, not anatomy.
