I still haven't heard from any Cali schools and I'm a resident here. Is there still a chance to get accepted, or even an interview, to any of these schools considering it's already late-Jan? Does anyone know how many each school has accepted so far? Thanks a lot.

GPA: 3.3 Sci: 3.2

How were your ECs and volunteer work? Research?

I've volunteered in 2 different hospitals over a year. I've also volunteered at a dental clinic, shadowed 2 different dentists for over 300 hrs., and have done research for more than a year. the only good thing right now is that I've haven't been rejected by any of these schools so i'm assuming there's still hope...?

Well the problem is with california schools they don't really reject early except for maybe loma linda. They keep your file till late march or april and then send the rejections out. It doesn't do them any good to send them out now. This is only from reading from SDN for a few years. This is the trend that i have seen. Others can disagree however thats just my insight

Did you apply anywhere else other than california, if so where else and have u gotten any rejections there or acceptances?

I wouldn't worry about it. I only heard back from UCLA so far. It is still relatively early in the application cycle.

i applied at the same time as you and your stats are kinda better then mine. i heard from usc in oct and just heard from ucsf 3 weeks ago. i would call each school and check because aadsas didnt get all ca schools all of my letters and my file was on hold for a while.

i'll definitely call them tomorrow, but the thing is that SF doesn't pick up their phone...they say to check status online...but my online status hasn't changed in over 2 months!! how do i contact them? Thanks.

I had the same problem with UCSF. I too am a CA resident and none of the CA schools have called me yet for an interview. Good luck getting ahold of someone.

I e-submitted AADSAS around mid July and so far have only heard from case for an alternate interview in march. I know I have to stay positive, but man... 😕

my stats:

overall: 3.35, sci: 3.4
DAT: 20AA/20TS/23PAT
Research: 1 year
Dent Exp: just enough
Work: worked through most of college
Volunteer: here and there

I really hope there is some hope. I keep wishing i had applied to some more schools. I had thought my stats would do the job. But I guess they were not good enough. I have'nt heard anything at all from the schools I applied to either. I feel terrible thinking about it.. 🙁
gpa:3.75
DAT: 22/24/19
Research:8 months
Dent Exp: not too bad
applied: ucla, usc, uop, llu, unlv
interview: unlv (feb last week)

Try contacting Carmen Alonso: [email protected]. She is usually pretty good about getting back to you.

Psychobruin, did you go to UCLA for undergrad?

Fret not, my fellow SDNers. It was starting to look pretty bleak for me as well in terms of the CA schools. I turned in my AADSAS early July and got interviews on the East Coast fairly quickly.

I finally got an interview for USC in December, but that was about it. Nada, zilch from UCSF and UCLA. But then I got an interview invite from UCSF last week. So there's still hope. UC schools are generally slower in the application cycle. But I would DEFINITELY call the office to make sure that your application is complete. Don't let that answering message intimidate you. At this point in the admissions cycle, you NEED to know that your application is complete so you can rectify it if it's not.

hey polarnut, no..i never actually decided to go to case for sure. i was torn between case and BU....and now i just received an acceptance from tufts. i thought BU and case were both excellent schools, but chose BU over case primarily because of location...as i have some family and friends closer to boston and i just think it would be an awesome place to spend 4, or more, years. anyways, good luck

Both UCs, USC, UoP (just got denied w/o interview), VCU, Case, and Nova (haven't sent in secondary (yet))

usc denied you, jeez you got great DAT scores. GPA isn't bad either. :scared: mind if i ask what school you attended?

I think iviikoivi is referring to uop when he said denied without interview...

yeah, as psychobruin stated, it was uop that I got denied. I went to UC- Irvine. Just graduated last quarter.

To be honest, I really don't know why you havn't heard from the UC schools. Maybe its a clerical error of sorts. I consider myself one of the luckiest applicants on earth because my stats were not all that spectacular and I got interviews at USC and UCSF.

The AdComs are a weird bunch. It's almost like they flip a frign coin or something. My stats have always been lower then any of my peers at all my interviews. At UCSF, everyone there had already been accepted into several good schools (UPenn, UCLA, UW, UoP, UConn, Columibia, etc) where I was totally embarrased that I havn't been accepted anywhere and only interviewed in AZ at that point (If ya didn't know, everyone and their mother interviewed at AZ).

Having said that, the reason I did get an interview and eventual acceptance is from the other parts of my app. I'm 35 and have done a lot in my life. Served in the military, was in a war, owned my own business for 5 years, went to a good undergrad school, etc. I know UCSF likes maturity and you can't get any more mature then an old geezer like me!

Good luck!

Congratulations! You deserve it. I'm hoping the same thing will happen to me. I'm 30 and have already lived a bit myself. Hopefully, they will see me as a mature applicant. 🙂
