At least eh democrats would have wasted the money on something that could have done some good.

I wouldn't go that far?. I picture 400 foot buckets of urine with huge crucifix in them?

Or government agencies to study the study habits of government agencies.

Everyone says "Cure for AIDS...cancer...."....whateva....I love Space research too and a lot of medical advances have come from the space programs.

Space would appear to be the "manifest destiny" of humankind. We are not exactly a content species, happy to sit in our caves looking out at the world. At least the best among us aren't.

I suspect you are a science fiction fan, too. I guess I'm contributing to the hijacking of my own thread. Oh well.

I'd like to point out the city of New York have almost as many med schools as the state of California. Ain't that cool?

A quote from your personal statement?

All I want to say is...

I lived 12 years of my life on the east coast (NY and NJ)...and moved to California 2 years ago.

And...I have come to the conclusion that...

THE EAST COAST SUCKS IN COMPARISON TO SUNNY CALIFORNIA! (with the exception of New York City, which is the greatest place in the world).
Why?
1. Great weather
2. Hot girls
3. Laid back
4. So many places to go
5. Hot girls
6. Hot girls
7. Hot girls
8. You get my point.

Sure, the East coast seems to be more cultured and down to earth (less superficial than So.Cal), but dude (my use of the word "dude" has quadrupled since I moved here), cali is beautiful and just like awesome, dude!

😛 Serious

Hate Bush and Kerry?? There seem to be a lot of you out there.

Jalby, just in terms of fairness, do you have any idea how many people EXITED the workforce in June? Net jobs would be a more accurate picture. In addition, June is when students graduate from college so there is a spike in new workforce entrants. Numbers are dangerous.

someone once told me that almost 12% of the people in this country live in california, and 40% of that 12% live in southern california.. correct my stats if im wrong but how does that not make it hard for californians?

Hate is a strong word but I do hate what is happening. It sounds bad but I don?t think Iraq is worth the death of any of our soldiers. I understand that we are there to help and stop some form of future attack. I also see what $400 billion dollars going to a country that doesn?t give a **** if any of us live or die. $400 billion damn dollars?..we could got back to the Moon, Mars, and develop an alternate energy source for that kind of money?..F@CK!!!!

Yes pretty true about Iraq. They don't care about us. They don't care about anybody and any ruler is better than no ruler-- but they would rather have an Iraqi dictator than an American government set up although we are going to let them on their own soon. I would HATE to think what might happen if we don't show terrorists that we are serious. That we won't let 9/11 remain unchallenged. It's a tough and controversial issue and we may be quite unpopular for laying down the law but we are flexing muscle and showing the world that we stand for justice (which in their heart of hearts they know but won't say for political reasons.)

Vote for Bush-- whatever you do vote for him. With who else do we even stand a chance of getting malpractice issues reformed (which are going to affect YOU in the very near future)? Sure the war may not be popular but remember also in the second term that Bush is locked in there and doesn't have to worry about reelection. He WILL do a whole lot more second term and try to get malpractice issues resolved. Kerry stands for patients' rights which means high malpractice insurance, more lawyers, and further devastation to the American medical industry.

We could do a lot with $400 billion dollars. But think what YOU could do if your malpractice insurance was cut in half, how much better it would be for people in high malpractice areas that their doctors not move elsewhere, and how much more attractive it would be for people to enter medicine and solve the shortage problem. Additionally we need to open more places in American medical schools and perhaps recruit foreign doctors also.

But please-- VOTE FOR BUSH!

The US Census Bureau says that 12.2% of Americans live in California. Ye gods, am I the only person in the world that bothers to google? No offense, but seriously, "someone once told me...correct my stats" ??? Just look it up!
OK, rant over. Sorry.

In my ongoing efforts to kill the rest of a long Friday, here's a really useless factoid:
I compared state population to med school applicants, and North Dakota has the highest percentage of the population apply to med school, at 0.0216%. Maine is the lowest, at 0.0056%. California is in the middle at 0.0112%.

It may be interesting to correlate these numbers with the doctors per capita for these states. Then again, it may not. Where's an MPH when we need one?
