Calling admissions

Is it a good idea to call schools to show your interest and persistence? or will that just come off as being annoying?

Annoying and useless.
Only call if you have a legitimate concern or question

Picture this!

Imagine you are already a dentist and you are looking to hire a new front desk. This one guy who wants the job, continuously calls you throughout the week.

How do you feel about that?

if he called me once every couple weeks to update me then i would think he really wants the job and would probably give it to him over someone who seems like they dont want it as bad. ya dig?

Now imagine you had 3000+ applicants and a 150 operatory practice to manage. Still feel the same way? That's a lot of 'update' calls to deal with.

I've read somewhere that someone got rejected from a school, then called them and showed them how interested he was in their school. In the end, that person got an interview with them. Sometimes it helps, but it can also hurt. I've called many times and feel like they get annoyed from the way they sound. If you're really passionate for a school, then go for it and call them up.

I know someone who was rejected from a school this cycle and he felt it was for a poor reason. He called in and discussed why he felt the rejection reason was not valid and by the time he got off the phone he had an interview for 6 days later and was in the first group of folks invited. He went from being rejected to being interviewed and very likely accepted with a phone call.

I hadn't heard from my top choice school so I called (just once) to see where my application was in the review process. I talked to the lady a little while and just asked about the timeline of their admissions process. 2 days later I got an interview invite. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not.

I wanted to call all the schools I applied to but I dont know how to ask them without sounding like that they should pick up my app now and look at it. How do y'all do it? What do you ask when you call the admissions office?
