help! help! help! does interviewing get better with practice? please tell me it gets better with practice. can anyone post who has had several interviews and tell me how many it takes before you sort of know what you are doing and can handle this semi-confidently. any advice will be cherished!!!! i am just so nervous and flustered and fear that i am not presenting myself well AT ALL!!!! it is sad to think that 30 minutes of sweat might nullify four years of prep. IS THERE HOPE? do adcoms see beyond the nerves/shyness/flusters and blusters?

thanks. "george."

There is plenty of hope. As you keep doing your interviews, you will find it much better to be yourself. After the sweat of the first couple you will know how to handle yourself. If you are comfortable then your interviewer will feel comfortable too and that is only a plus. Hope this helps

Definately!! You really learn how to package and deliver your answers to the key questions that you get asked over and over and over again...also you learn how to steer the conversation in the direction you want it to go...honestly, it really does get easier with the more interviews you do...you also just feel more natural in the setting.

Good luck

haha... i understand... but for me, i don't think i will have very many "over and over agains..." i will be lucky to get two at this point. this tells you why i am so concerned about the "one" that i have had. hopefully there will be more. in the meantime, i am hoping that the one i had (trust me, it was baaaaad) will NOT land me a rejection. here is hoping that interviewers know that some people just don't interview well!

and i am just fine in conversations with people so i am not concerned that i would not be able to communicate to colleagues or patients in the future. it is just that i put TONS of pressure on myself thinking that if i blow the interview, my entire career is over. anyone have similar experiences and still got in? sorry to be fishing but i am just so consumed by this right now. you guys are so great to encourage people in need and not make me feel like more of a loser. thanks!

You get a lot better, trust me. In pressure situations, I'm probably the worst person in the world in terms of communicating my thoughts. In fact, it really showed during my first interview (I really didn't think it went well). Yet, I think if the interviewer knows its your first or second they are more understanding. I told my interviewere that it was my first, and she seemed very patient and understanding.

After the 2nd interview, I wasn't really nervous at all (keep in mind, I didn't have an acceptance at that point). Maybe its some sort of sensory numbness type thing, but after my 2nd interview I was just really calm and collected. (My first two though, I was a nervous wreck).

P.S. don't worry if you think your first interview was bad, I did horrible on my first interview but I was lucky enough to get an acceptance =) I really do think they take into account your nervousness if its your first/second interview.

Interviews get easier. You almost have to have one bad one... after that bad one, the rest of them are a piece of cake. You know what they're going to ask, you feel more comfortable talking...

does anyone have any relaxation tecniques that work DURING the interview? (in a way that the interviewer doesn't notice.) )
