So, are you more efficient at studying at night, or day?
I find myself much more efficient at night (other than the SDN distraction) than during the day. Unfortunately, being ona rotation and having to be there at 6-7am doesn't help--

I am the opposite, I like waking up early and studying. Before exams I will go to bed at 9-10pm and then wake up at 3 am! I am not much good after 7-8 pm.

I am way more efficient at night, too. But what do you do when you have to be up so early?

well usually ill go to sleep around 1-2 these days, having to get up around 6-7am. And then obviously this usually calls for a nap once i get back home in the later afternoon/evening. So, it all blances out. When I had classes before last month, they were all in the afternoon, so i would be up till 5am or so, and then wake upat noon, right before class. I can't wait for this rotation to be over, so i can get back to my old sched again-- I only have one month of class left from compl basic sci--behav sci.

I'm with you. Good for us that classes and clerkships start early, generally speaking. Thinking about the med school schedule, I plan to be up by 4-5 every day. My only MAJOR issue is this - even if I go out on a Fri or Sat until 3AM, I still wake up at 6, 7 or 8 AM and destroy any chance of being productive the next day. Unfortunately, if I'm smart, I need to be in bed by 10-12 every night, even weekends. It really stinks, I'm envious of those people that can sleep 8hrs regardless of the time they go to bed.

Beer (yes, in the afternoon! - b/c my bed time is 9pm) and cheese ravioli time...mmm.

I find that studying at night is the most effective for me as most of the distractions go away - People calling you for random stuff, good TV shows, the Sun! etc...
Late at night there are little distractions.
Luckily for me, I can go with about 2 hrs of sleep for about a month with little consequences.

Two hours of sleep for a month straight? Is that with or without stimulants?

I wish I could do that. I work best w/ 4-5 hours but am known for getting 3 - and after a few days on 3 hours of sleep, I am in a different plane.

How do you do that and still retain info as if in a well-rested state?

Naps are the best thing kindergarten ever taught me. I usually take one about every day, although I am trying to cut back..... they are addicting.

Yeah, you're right. I should nap after classes. How do you find time to exercise though? If I do it after a nap, in the evening it cuts my study time. If I do it before class in the morning, I lose an hour of sleep....

I drink coffee when I feel tired, but other than that, I just eat lots of candy... It seems to do the trick with me! 🙂

I study much better at night. But I'm such a procrastinator that I end up being forced to pull all nighters during exam weeks. I wish I could get into a good routine of studying more than an hour or so every day...maybe next semester

Heh, manic much?

lord this thread was meant for me...

i love love love studying at night with one of my black kitties shadow. Shadow enjoys sitting on my abdominal region when my feet are up on my desk, while i study. The other black kitty, scarlet is usually asleep till 3, then she wakes up, makes her sojourn to the office and rubs past me a couple of times so that we both know the other is alive. 😉

but back to main topic... i cant stand coffee or any hot beverages, so my flavor of choice is Diet Dew... i love the stuff. i just finished studying for tommorows lectures and played a little WoW as a break.

so far *knock on wood* i have been studying till around 4-5, sleeping till 2, then taking a nap sometime in the afternoon-early night, and studying. i make sure i get out and enjoy the sunlight, even though my friends have dubbed me both cachexic and a vampire.

hell even my AIM messages says "even vampires need their sleep"

I dont think studying during the day or at night matters...what matters is that one should have the right motivation...and interest in the subject....only then will knowledge flow!!!!
