Hi! I am flying in on a Saturday for a Monday interview, and am hoping for some suggestions for what to explore in the Yale area on Saturday and Sunday. Are there any fun tourist things to do-museums, restaurants, etc.? I have heard it is not the best of areas, so I really appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

I have pretty much written Yale off since November (MCAT score << Yale quality), but does anyone know when their last interview date is? They are less then easy to get a hold of.

Congrats on the interview! I'm totally jealous. 🙂

It's not so bad around central campus.

New Haven... the museums are great: Center for British Art, Yale University Art Gallery, Peabody Museum of Natural History...

Pizza
The big ones are: BAR, Modern, Pepe's, and Sally's. I'm not into pizza, so I can't tell you which one is the best.

Japanese
Miso is good for traditional sushi. The chef at Miya's is pretty adventurous, so if you want some crazy sushi, you should go there.

Spanish/Mediterranean
Barcelona. I haven't been there for the food, but I've been told it's pretty amazing.

Contemporary American
Bespoke. Pricey, but it's very tasty.

Vegetarian
Claire's Cornercopia. Being a vegetarian, I enjoyed Claire's immensely. They have good cake.

The bars are pretty solid too. These are the ones I frequented:
BAR - good beer, solid pizza.
Barcelona - great wine list. It's a bit of a hike if you're staying around the med school, though.
Caffe Adulis - it's a restaurant, but I like their bar because it's usually pretty mellow. I also had a crush on one of the waitresses.
Richter's - gets pretty rowdy, decent beer selection. Get a half-yard.
Hot Tomato's - a lot of people like the martinis.
Rudy's - apparently the frites are good. I just drink the beer.

I really want an interview too. I even wrote them a pre-interview update letter 🙁

On Thursday nights, BAR has $1 pints. They also make their own beer. Hot Tomato's has $5 Martini's on Wednesday nights. 😀

beineckie library (@ the undergraduate campus)

my student host told me that because most of the manuscripts in there are so rare, in the case of a fire, all the employees have less than a minute to evacuate before the building seals up and sucks out all the air.
also, there are no windows, instead, there are thin marble slabs to prevent direct sunlight from entering and damaging the books. it makes the inside look kinda creepy and cool. i liked it, i think you will too.

good luck on your interview!

There are a BUNCH of rumors about Beinecke. I swear somebody told me that the entire building was able to go underground in case of a nuclear attack.

I heard that it doubles as Superman's fortress of solitude!

MASHED POTATO PIZZA AT BAR
