For those of you that have been on interivews, can you please share what you did that was good and bad? (Based on compliments from the interviewrs or students or other source?)

Perhaps you did things differently at certain schools and saw the results in the schools that accepted and rejected you? How confident is too confident? Obviously you shouldn't be a cocky jerk, but while trying to convince them to like you shouldn't you also be asking questions to try to see if you would like it there (sort of like a reverse interview?).

I've been on other interviews and know the basics but a dental school interview is different so past the basics of how to look and act professional, what else can you share with us rookies please?

Thought this would be good to get a list going of things all of us who haven't interviewed yet could work of while we wait for interviews 🙂 😱:scared:

I think you should try to ask as many questions as possible (but don't ask questions to just ask questions). For instance, I am interested in academia and research, so I asked lots of questions regarding these two fields during all my interviews. This wasn't to impress the adcoms but to help me decide which school is the best fit for me and my pursuits.

After all, dental schools are shopping for good applicants and at the same time you are shopping for a good dental school. 😉😀🙂

yep, superduper has a good point.
You're not there just for a interview... you are there to meet students... and to choose if that school is right for you. See if they are more of a clinical based or research based school... dont be afraid to ask questions, but at the same time... dont ask fullish questions, they expect you to know a fair amount of information about their school before you get there.

by asking SDN for help i can already tell you might be the type to overprepare, or in need for help...

so if you are asking about "interviews" you might be in the need for real help.

Just be confident at your interviews, sit up straight nod understandingly when the interviewer speaks... if you are trying to say something that might be negative about the school... such as "I read that your school doesnt have this..."
Try to say this near the end of the interview... Initially it would be good to to talk about the cool things about the school, and ask how the students have been feeling about it... then as the negative questions...

try to make your interview around 20-30 minutes
anything shorter, might give the impression that you just want to get out of there... and are not really interested... However, like the other guy said dont ask stupid obvious questions...

I asked what they think the the current state of dentistry is... because i recently read about an article... So i could have a deep conversation about it...

Try to find a solid aspect of dentistry that you know... and talk about it debate it with them...

more to come later

Good? - The ECO factor. (i.e. Enthusiastic, Collected & Open-minded during my interviews)

Bad? - Hesitated in honestly declaring my weaknesses...ughh!
