Hello everybody, so i just got my first rejection. Should I call to see what my application is lacking? Maybe to see where I could make improvements?

Yes. Call the school and ask. You didn't say whether this was post-secondary or post interview. If post secondary, it could have nothing to do with your application. Secondaries generate revenue. Most schools accept them from all primary applicants. Perhaps you are not from the region or did not fit their mission statement for primary care, for example.

If the reason was a poor LOR that you were not afforded the opportunity to read, you need to know that becuase this could result in more rejuections.

If post interview you need to know so that you can fix whatever you said in the next interview.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear that. 🙁

I would definitely call or email an admissions advisor and try to schedule a time (like 15-20 min) when you could talk to an advisor or a dean about your application and anything you could work on in your applications or interviewing skills. There's also the chance that you did everything perfectly, but they didn't feel like you fit well with the school. If that's the case, you'll likely find a fit elsewhere.

Interviewing isn't a natural skill for everyone, certainly. Everyone gets better and more comfortable as they go to more and more interviews and get to know the potential questions and talking points they'll face.

There are many things you can do to improve. Don't get discouraged--many applicants get several rejections and several acceptances in the same cycle. :luck:

It depends, if you think you may gain something from it go ahead. If it was a rejection from a reach or hyper-competitive school it may be less useful. However if it was from a 50-50 or "safety" there maybe more to gain. If this a first rejection it maybe of limited use, especially for this application cycle. How were your stats and remember that even people who get into HMS or Yale get rejections from lower tier schools. It's a numbers game most people don't get into a given school. I'd go ahead and call, it may however be better to wait until application season is over.

@lawyer2bdoc this is a post-interview rejection. On another note, everyone's always saying "the interviews are soo LOW-key" and how its so relaxed and no need to gun down others, which I REALLY took to heart and now im starting to think that maybe i really have to shine especially when it comes to group interviews. my stats arent bad, 3.5/31 several diverse ECs, GREAT LORs, but no research. don't know whats holding me back, its got me all confused and tied up in a knot

I dont know what to tell you. What school was it too? From what I have heard, some schools like CCOM and DMU-COM are starting to focus on research....maybe they want to become research oriented. Do you have any other interviews lined up, and to where?

Chances are you did nothing wrong. 3.5/31 is far, far better than any DO school's avg stats. Most likely they thought you wouldn't choose them, and they didn't want to risk a rejection.

With those stats you are absolutely guaranteed admission to any DO school. Don't let the haters make you think otherwise. Keep up the good fight.

@podboy well ive thought of that but that just doesnt even make sense either because the school could've given me an acceptance knowing that i wouldnt attend and end up +$2000 in their pockets for free. i gotta have done something wrong... I suspect they were watching me during our little group lunch.. i wasnt talking to anyone, i kinda just sat there listening to the other students talk. im going to venture a guess that when they were watching me, they concluded that i wasnt interested even though in reality i was very much interested, just also very much shy about it.

@ 2nd point, lets say you're right about the guaranteed admission with my stats to any DO school then what if they ALL think this way? then i would be **** outta luck, no one would want me..

OP,

Did you apply to the other LECOMs or just Erie? (I read your post in LE thread) I think you should call and see if there is anything you may have done wrong so you will be able to correct it in future interviews. Good Luck.

Wrong.

Your stats are good but not a shoe in for any DO school like the pre-podiatrist seems to be so sure of. I would absolutely call the school and ask, it may be something you can fix before your next interview.

Getting into any med school is becoming harder and harder each cycle so having all the information you can use will only benefit your future chances.

best of luck

Three things come to mind: A) LECOM thought that you weren't going to go there as you were well above their medians B) You did poorly in the interview C) LECOM only admits 50% of their interview. Your stats got you the interview, the interview gets you the seat. Being quiet at lunch doesn't seem to likely. I'd check to see if there was a screw up. It's happened before someone wrongly admitted or denied.

Well you definitely need to shine at those three interviews if those are places you would like to be at.

If schools such as KCOM, CCOM, and NYCOM offered you interviews you can confidently rule out stats that are keeping you out.

I don't think a lack of talking at the lunch would immediately discredit you, but it may have. I would, not knowing you, say that the interview was the problem.

You can try to get feedback but many schools will not provide it till after the admission cycle
