i shadowed an orthodonist in the fall of 2007 and never bothered to get a letter from her, not really knowing back then that i would need one anyway - now that i decided to apply for this cycle, my advisor is telling me that i should get one - and it needs to be postmarked by april 30th.

my question is, how do i go about calling up the office and be like "hey, i need a letter now"? i need to do it asap! and i hate being awkward! thanks.

It couldn't hurt the ask, the worst she could say is no. Why does it need to be in by the 30th?

Just be polite and remind her who you are and let her know that you're applying to dental school, and that you thought you had such a wonderful time there, etc etc, and then just ask politely.

actually i was in the same boat as you are now, but for me, i had to ask the dentist whom i used to work for 4 years ago.

i went to his office and talked to him about it. I think it just shows more respect if you talk to him/her in person.

bumping.

just looking really for opinion on whether or not i should personally visit the office or call - i feel like if i call first and she says yes then i'll know what kind of information she wants me to drop off. does it matter? thanks!
