Cliffs states " At this time, malic acid is shuttled out of the vacuole and converted back to OAA (requiring 1 ATP to ADP), releasing CO2 ."

How does going from a 4C malic acid to a 4C OAA release a CO2? This doesn't make sense. I know it requires 1 ATP but the carbons don't "add up".

Haha all you need to know is it goes from malic acid to OAA and it releases CO2. Don't focus on the tiny details, you'll go crazy.
