Guys, I am gonna start the bio series this fall and our professor requires us to use the masteribiology component.

Do you know if I happen to buy the book used online will its still give me the access to mastering bio or do I need to have a new textbook? this is for the 7th/8th edition.

Also, how did you study for this class to Ace it?

Are you actually going to use it? Ask someone who took the class. I never used the online component. As for studying, I read the book and understood the material, not direct memorization, but actual understand so I could manipulate concepts to get the correct answers.

I've seen that book listed as used and it usually says that it doesn't come with the code for MasteringBio. I have it and IMO it's worth the money to buy a new one, it's a really good textbook. I never used the online thing though.

according to some students, this professor gives 5% at the end of the semester if you use it and turn in whatever he assigns.

Mastering bio does not come with a used book.

You can buy a cd-key online for the class on masteringbio website.

You can buy the key separately but it usually costs as much as the book, IIRC... You should simply buy the book/key combo...

n of one here, but i found the online component very helpful in my studying! i wish that the textbook for my course now had the same quality and quantity of study materials online.

i feel that it was worth it to buy the textbook new, with the code, because it helped so much. it also comes with an ebook, so sometimes i didn't feel like looking at the textbook, or lugging the huge thing around, but i could just study from my laptop!

So it's 5% extra credit? If it's just extra credit, don't bother. Do well in the rest of the class. If not... consider whether you need those 5% to achieve your A. If you usually pull 97-100% in your classes, you could probably pull off an A (not even an A-) w/o those 5%. In that case, it's not worth the money, but if you're unsure whether you could manage it, then it may be worth the money....

If you buy an old textbook, there are chances that the person before you used the Mastering Bio and redeemed that code, so you may be unable to have access to it. And yes, I used the online component to study for quizzes and tests. So I would buy a new one just to be sure if you are going to use the online portion. Or you if you buy an old one, you can ask the person who is selling it to you, if they have used the online mastering bio code or if the book has one. To ace the class, you have to know the Professor's notes very, very well and also take notes from the book based upon what the Professor lectures on. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS AND FOCUS ON TOPICS THE PROFESSOR STRESSES UPON. You will likely be tested on material the Professor discusses. Then once you know what the Professor taught, go in the book and search for the topics he discussed and gain a solid understanding of the material (whether this is through notes, flashcards, highlighting, whatever works for you). But this does not mean that the book alone or the Professor's notes alone will suffice. The Book and the Professor's notes both matter a great deal and you must have a thorough understanding of both. Of course, if there is something the Professor did not discuss and tells you to read it . . . then read and understand it! You'd be surprised at how many people who don't do this. Good luck! :luck:

Well if you guys have it and didnt use it, sell me the code..lol

what do you think of the questions found in campbells? are they easier than mcat questions?
