Is this too old of a copy? A friend of mine just gave it to me for free cause he is not going to need it any more..... I wanted to use this as a complementary to my schaums outline of bio..

should I bother with the 5th / 6th edition of campbells? or just stick with this...

thanks

You're good to go man! I have an edition from 99 when I took intro bio. The only "new" information would most likely be in the classification section. Of course that junk changes like every 5 minutes.

I've been wondering the same thing. The 4th edition is so simple and less detailed when you compare it with the new editions. However, reading the 4th edition is doable, but not sure how reading the newer ones are. For example, the 4th edition doesn't even talk about cyclic or noncyclic electron transport. what are you going to do?

Whats the copyright date of the 4th edition?

Are you sure it doesn't have cyclic/noncyclic ET...that's not exactly a "new" discovery.

Actually, my copy right year 2003.
Are you sure it doesn't talk about the ETC ? I just read over that entire chapter today (chapter 6) its all there.... Pretty much 90% of the stuff schaums talks about in the Energy chapter (I think chap 5) is available in the chapter 6 (campbells).... THe only MAJOR difference I see between the two is schaums also adds a bit more detail into the biochemistry of things and campbells (being a strickly biology book) doesn't....

it talks about etc, but not about cyclic and noncyclic....i'm pretty sure because i read that chapter.

oh lol... You see, Im new to biology, heck I haven't even taken Bio 1 or 2 (last biology class I had was in my soph year in high school ~ 10 years ago),

Anyways, Im not really sure what cyclic / noncyclic ETC is..... is this info present in the schaums biology ? If yes which chapter if you don't mind me asking...

One more question, does the newer editions of the campbells (5th and 6th) carry more standard info than the older editions (like the 4th) (example being the cyclic / noncyclic ETC info)

I went on Amazon.com and bought the sixth edition, which is just one edition old, it is used but in fine shape and bought it for $10 with like $6 shipping. If you are concerned with how old your edition just buy the sixth edition on amazon.com.

I honestly do not see a significant difference among 4th, 5th and 6th addition. My advice is "save your money", use the Campbells that you have. You`ll be fine for Bio.

Campbells changes editions more than some people change their underwear. It's all the same information just a little more detailed and some things about the classification systems. I think they do it to just keep people from passing down the book and to keep the money coming in, lol.

Okay, which version are you guys talking about?

Here's a link to the different types of bio books that campbell's have to offer:

let me know please. I have the concepts and connections one

I used the 6th edition! Its good, but just need to have the motivation to read the whole thing, Even if it is only one time, just do it right, thats if you decide to read it!
