Hi
I was wondering if its legal for dental assistants to do fillings? based on what I know its illegal, however my wife visited a dentist yesterday, and after she came back she told me that the dentist drilled out the decay, but the fillings the assistant did all on their own, without the presence of a dentist. Does anyone know what the law says about this?

Thanks

We're all predents here. I'd ask in the dental forum. I'm not sure, but this may depend on the state or something like that.

It is state-specific. It is legal in Colorado, and a lot of practices do it. I was actually offered to be trained on how to do amalgam fillings...but I decided not to do it.

Check this out CNTRL + F then type your state so you don't have to read the entire document.
