Can an edemetous airway clamp off an otherwise good ett?

I think it can. Read about it happening in the newspaper a while back, although the lawyers are fighting over what the sequence of events were.

If you're really worried about edema, you might need a reinforced tube or infraglotic airway.

Those tubes get pretty soft when they're warm.

ive certainly attributed tracheal/glottic edema as the cause of high peak pressures before, after seeing a narrowing on bronchoscopy (or being unable to pass the scope.) i think the more common mechanical deformity would be kinking of the tube, rather than compression. i dont think you could occlude a tube with compression but they will kink easily
