Can any of you see yourselves doing anything else?

I have ALWAYS wanted to be a doctor, or be in healthcare. Since I have Crohn's Disease, I have been exposed to it for basically my entire life. Just watching my own quality of life go up from a frail boy, to an athletic teen thanks to the word of my GI has made me, and him extremely happy. This exposure gave me an interest in medicine, which after 8 years has not gone away.
I cannot see myself doing ANYTHING else, except for nursing if God forbid I don't get into medical school. If I didn't go into medicine basically I would not be happy in life. Could any of you honestly see yourselves doing anything else except for medicine? Whether that's law, finance, or even agriculture.

I can see myself working at a movie theater, mostly because I am working at a movie theater and cleaning the bathroom mirror.

lol 👍

but to be serious, yeah I could.. Of course medicine is what I am really interested in now, but I just graduated high school man.. I could really change my mind at any time in the next 4 years. I have always been interested in many things, an I don't think I would "be unhappy with myself" just because I didn't succeed in medicine. I do love medicine and science though, as far as I've seen so far (although that may be skewed from the amount of Greys Anatomy and Scrubs I've watched)

Yup. Sometimes I can see myself as a nurse, a speech pathologist, a high school teacher and as a medical laboratory scientist. Sure medicine is number one in my mind at the moment, sometimes you have to keep your options open.

I would love to be surgeon but I would also like to be a super engineer, professor of Biology or porn actor.

I always have my backups. I'd like to see myself doing app/computer programming if I didn't end up a doctor in the end.

Before medicine became my primary dream, I wanted to be a pilot for a major airline. If I don't get into medical school, I might just join the Air Force. I can also see myself being a civil/mechanical/aerospace engineer, a lawyer, or a politician!

I think I would be unhappy in anything but medicine or electrical engineering. Unfortunately if I don't get into medical school I'm screwed since I'm a junior in a bio major. EE was just too risky.

I should probably elaborate on medicine as well. I wouldn't be happy in Peds or Family Medicine. I have to do a surgical specialty of some sort.

^ or so you say now :naughty: lol jk, i just like to keep my options open personally

same reason I applied to so many colleges compared to my friends

I can't see myself as anything but a doctor either.

I envy you, I wish I could have the same mind set as you, but I'm just terrified that I won't make it to veterinary school.

Hey! same as me! I would wanna program video games if I dont get into med school

I think a career in medicine would be most satisfying to me over all professions, but I could totally see myself doing something else. I have a broad variety of interests both in the health field and out of it. Being a doctor would be incredible, but there are plenty of other professions that would also be pretty cool!

Careers I would be interested in are all Doctoral and research based....

Theoretical Mathematician and Experimental Physicist are the two. So I might just have to major in either Mathematics or Physics.

It just seems like everyone wants to become a doctor or a lawyer or a pharmacist or a dentist... I feel like I want to do something different? Where I am not influenced by money at all, and the main driving factor in my work is my passion for it, to change the world.

And the concepts in astronomy and physics are seriously mind blowing, and I find it more interesting than human anatomy.

Why not double major in Math and Physics? The overlap should be pretty good!

A double major in Math and Physics would cause me to graduate in 5 years probably... it's so much material and the load could probably hurt my GPA more than help. They are both difficult majors. 🙁

NO excuses sir. You must command and conquer. Jk that's too much. I'd do biomedical engineering. You sound like the type of person who likes engineering but also medicine. Perfect combo.

I like to apply information into physicality.

If I had to do any type of engineering it would be Materials Engineering. Helping to develop one of the greatest inventions known to man (Nanotechnology) would be an exhilarating experience.

Imagine injecting biodegradable nanobots into the blood stream to kill tumors, for example. This would totally change everything from medicine, to civil, mechanical and aerospace engineering, with everything in between.

Ah ~ I remember being all into engineering when I was a fifth grader. I was in a engineering competition team going against other schools in the state and we won first surprisingly lol. I have no clue where that interest is now, but my mom said I would always play with old electronics lol.

USC is already on it.

Honestly, no. I've wanted to be some sort of physician my entire life. From reading about medicine and personal experience along with multiple family members which are physicians; I decided I wanted to be a physician. I didn't really think about a specialty until high school but after looking more and more into the field of medicine, I think pathology would suit me the best.

I'd like to be a physical therapist, doctor, computer scientist, professional test driver, mathematician, statistician, laboratory staff scientist, bioinformatician, mechanical engineer, ESPN commentator, automotive designer, medical examiner and web developer.

You gotta eventually pick one and go with it....trust me sooner is better than later if you want to avoid taking classes in college that you don't need.

dat math tho 😍

Maybe a Pilot. But medicine and science are always numero uno.

I can't really see myself doing anything else besides being a doctor. Ever since I was little I've wanted to be a doctor. I'm sure most of it when I was younger was because I was constantly at the doctor for ongoing a couple issues that thankfully are mostly resolved and I constantly was going to hospitals for tests and treatment. Then now that I'm older I'm more interested in the actual medicine part and science of it all. I have changed what I wanted to be a couple times to things like a therapist, teacher, or once a paranormal investigator. But those never lasted long and I've always gone back to being a doctor.

Mmm...I used to want to become a teacher. Right now, I cannot imagine any other career to pursue than medical. Really. I like math more than science...so that's going to be a tough one. However, I do not detest any subject. It's just I'm more adept to math than science.
Anyway. Back on topic. I cannot go into law or politics or education since it does not suit me personally. Business...well, I've been surrounded by it all my life and frankly, I'm not too big on that.
So doctor. I love organizing, saving lives, the thrill, the knowledge obtained. I have this need to be important and to be needed. Haha. But in terms if what kind of doctor...I cannot see me as a surgeon. *shiver* I do not like cutting people. Really. It's like fingernails on chalk kind of feeling in me.
What I do like is the general doctor every day help or the lab research kind of job...so I'm thinking anesthesia, pathology, or neurology. I like emergency med and radiology...but I'm not too sure on that. But doctor it is. 🙂

You think it's be too much to have four minors though? Realistically? I want a major...and even a dual major. Pertaining to med, of course.

If I were to become a human doctor one day, pathology would be my number one choice. The funny thing is that when I took the specialty selector just to see what I'll get lol. Sure enough pediatrics matched my personality the most lol. It made me giggle because someone I knew mentioned that I should become a pediatrician because I'm so good with children.

personally I do. You probably saw my more detailed response on the other thread.

yeah i matched pretty good with that iirc, and i could never be a pediatrician man :scared: too many little monsters..

Same here. Pediatrics was the last on the list. Along. With family and ob/gyn.

Hahaha, wittle monster everywhere in the pediatricians office!

At first, I wanted to be a mechanical engineer but then throughout my growing years and self- development process, I made up my mind that I am meant to be a doctor.

I can only realistically see myself as a doctor or dentist. Since 3rd grade, it's what I've wanted to be. I still have my pipe dream of being a kicker in the NFL lol, but that's unrealistic.

I could see myself in congress or a lawyer. When I was younger I wanted to be a judge. I eventually realized medicine was my calling, though.

Even though I've never actually done research, I like the idea of biomedical research (PhD) in terms of discovering new things and exploring topics no one else has. Research opportunities are like the main reason I'm looking forward to college lol!

Not really. Since I was very little I always told my parents and other people that I wanted to be a doctor, and I doubt that's going to change.
