I have a 25% essay due today at 6:00(look at the time, its 5:25 PM), and I started 10 minutes ago. Also keep in mind that I am also using some of my time to type this message on SDN.

Now, can anyone top this level of procrastination?

Why?

IMHO, sounds more like stupidity than procrastination. it's one thing to put things off. its quite another to have 35 minutes to write a paper worth 25% of your grade and honestly hope to complete it AND make it good. however, if you don't have to use sources, quotations, etc.....it's doable. If this is like an introspection paper, then anyone can don that in about 10 minutes lol.

Follow up your SDN session with 45 minutes of procrasturbating and you are well on your way http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=procrasturbation

Edit: I am curious though on what your plans are for after 6:00 pm.

25% Final in four hours, I guess I'll start studying for it soon. Yes, it is a night final

stupidity = procrastination

Maybe this is a 1 page paper that counts 25%?

Tick tock tick tock

Tick tock on the clock but the party don't stop no.. o wow o wow.. (good song)

P.S - I envy you, but i also salute all of you who have been accepted to Med school. Congrats!(referring to Floaton, metallica, depakote, rock 🙂 )

Chuck Norris did it in 10 minutes, don't know why you can't do it in 40.

It's official: I'm F$%*ED

Im not sure this tops yours, but yesterday I wrote a ten page paper from 7 am to 5 pm while at work and classes from 11-1.

Had to synthesize three texts with minimum 10 direct citations.

45% of my final grade.

That's badass. Wow... but do you think you're gonna get a good grade?

FAIL. Who the hell would do that?

What an apt response on your part.

I'm actually pretty good at staying up all night so I never have to cut it that close.

EDIT: If I was ever that close though, I'd go back through everything I've ever written (It's saved on my computer) and see what I could use and just copy-paste. It's not plagiarism since I wrote it

Should I whip out an excuse?

You know what guys, I really do have a problem. It's this procrastination thing, and you might ask me why I do it, and I tell you, its cause I get away with it. I have a really high GPA despite the very little effort I put int any of my classes, and I'm not a genius, I dont know if this school is just insanely easy or I am just really book smart, anyway, im off to my class with this essay, i will be back later

haha...not so sure this is something to be bragging over, TBH, but, I think I may be able to top it....

My senior year, I wrote a 50-page paper in under 24 hours, start to finish after finishing my other finals (the paper was due Thursday and noon and my last final was Wednesday afternoon). The paper was worth about 25% of our grade and, as it was the prof's first time teaching this particular 400-level course, she told us it would be "10-15 pages." ...15 pgs, piece-o-cake right?!

The paper included taking and interpreting the results of a series of diagnostic assessments (medical in nature) and then integrating them (w/ full citations to journal articles and research for each diagnostic) along w/ a full pt history to synthesize a picture of the pt (I had the resources already picked out, so I wasn't doing all of the research during that period of time, although some of it certainly had to be done while writing the paper itself and I don't use outlines as I've found them generally detrimental to my writing style). With all the req'ts the prof laid out for us for this paper, lengths varied from 40 to 60+ pages. I started writing around 4:00pm and the paper was due the following day at noon. It was an insane night, haha. My roommate and I went and grabbed some Monsters to hold me over all night around 11 when it became clear it'd be an all-nighter.

End result: A on paper, A in class! Apparently, I write well under pressure.

I once baked a cake, took an IQ test, french kissed a stranger, while driving to campus, minutes before my biochemistry final was to begin.

That might not be procrastination, but it's about as close to reality as your paper that due at 6:00.

There's a difference between being a procrastinator and just straight up not taking school seriously...

I am expecting an A. I will be sure to let you know when grades come in in about 2 weeks haha. I had a good handle on the books and had already taken notes for exams we had before so it wasn't entirely cold turkey.

OP:

1. What was the class?
2. How long was the paper?
3. Were any citations needed?
4. And most importantly: Why?

Damn...I thought I was the best, but I guess not. I also had a 25% paper due and I started two nights before and finished like an hour before I handed it in. I also only studied the night before all my finals, and so far I'm pretty damn happy with my scores.

i might be able to top it

chem final in the morning, physics in the evening, started studying for them the evening before
also hadn't been to any of the lectures for either class that semester

i did have one thing going for me, physics comes really easy to me

When I first read this, I missed the "due today" part and was about to ask what exactly is so significant about the rest of your post, as I've hammered out a few long papers myself when it came down to the last minute. But now I just have to ask...WHY?! Seriously, how many times did you hit the snooze button on your internal "can't put this off any longer if there's any hope of getting a decent grade" clock before you finally decided that this, ~30 minutes before 1/4 of my grade is due, was a good time to start?

You're either incredibly poor at time management or leaving out a lot of details that exonerate the former.

So what was the result? Sounds like some pretty poor planning to me. Likely F in at least one of them....

This is the reason why procrastinators exist 🙂. It's basically the recipe to create a procrastinator: continued success without effort. "Success" is dependent on the person.

Oh there was this one time, actually i guess it was two, when I started on a physics final project after it was due. So I built a fully-operational time machine and went back in time to turn in the project in on time.

nice👍

yeah you got nothing on this OP

Well, I don't really know what to say about this except that you will get what you deserve most likely.

The funny thing is, I did a little procrastinating of my own because I was/am sick with the flue. I had a Spanish test today I though I was going to fail (which would not have mattered because she drops the lowest test*). Anyways, I ended up doing really well. Go figure.

The trick to procrastination is to never wait so long as to make completing the assignment impossible. I've pulled off some hefty papers 4-5 hours before they were due... but waiting until 30 minutes before the due time? That's not very smart.

I have a calculus final at 8am tomorrow, and I haven't started studying. After these acceptances, I am becoming a lot more laid back. I guess also after that beast MCAT, A's are also a lot easier to get too.

perhaps this is a P/F class and the OP studies like a type A pre-med, and having accumulated full credit in the other 75% of the class, realizes that it is futile to write the paper?

did you guys ever wonder that this dude may be a troll who's bored ?

Call me whatever you want, but procrastinors exist, and some go to real extremes

I could see why he/she thought this because most people on this forum take school pretty seriously; hence being pre-meds.

Its weird... this thread almost sounds like the OP's bragging about having no qualities that a med student would need to pass his classes... weird...

nope, no Fs
B+ in chem and A- in physics
I found the hard way that physics is one of the few subjects that does not give in to the-night-before studying. If you have done all of your homework up to that point, then it is not exactly "night before." If you can get an A in physics without doing any homework and just studying for a few hours before it, then your class is probably too easy. And if it is not calc based, then it's much easier by default.

Or maybe he precisely demonstrates what med students are made of. Premed courses are not mentally demanding.

I never said they were demanding. But knock it out in 30 minutes more than an hour from the deadline. Pushing it to an hour before hand is just stupid and is gonna blow up in your face one day.

Yes, but just because it does not take a genius does not mean that it does not require time and effort.

I already admitted its stupid and that I have a problem I need to fix... Anyways, I already submitted the paper, and I'm probably expecting a B or something, but we will see what happens
