Hey guys,

So I have just recently been active on SDN and wanted some advice. I graduated with a 2.87 and have been taking classes total of 7 since like Anatomy and Physiology... I took the DAT this past week and my scores are as follows:

AA: 20 (87.1%)
TS:20
PAT:20
RC:20
QR:17
BIO:18
GC:19
OC: 26 (98.1%)

I am currently a reapplicant, but receiving no interviews just yet, I will probably have to reapply for this next cycle... and I want to confidently apply this upcoming cycle, what do you think my chances are? I have shadowed a handful of dentists, have both research and leadership positions and great letters of rec.

Post-bac/masters or alot of spring/summer courses. To realistically have a shot, I would aim for at least a 3.2-3.3.

research/shadowing...you're ready to go! Apply to all your state schools.

Also, are you letters of rec glowing? Make sure you get 3 or more very good ones.

thanks guys, is there a difference between a post bac and masters like in matter of weight? also, can I still be eligible for this upcoming cycle or not a good idea? I just dont want to have a lag year as well

Your DAT and EC are good, but your GPA will probably bring your application down. Some schools have an automatic cut-off of 3.0. I heard that there are many more applicants with great DAT scores, so I doubt that having only a good DAT will get you an interview. You can take a chance and apply this coming cycle if you have the money to burn. But statistically speaking, your chances at landing interviews with a 2.87 GPA will be low.

If I were you, I would save the money and take a year off to work on bringing the GPA up. If you do post-bac, it will be added to your undergrad GPA. But if you do a masters, it will be presented as a separate GPA on AADSAS. If you choose to do a masters, make sure it's not a research based one with thesis. Choose a special 1 yr masters program that's geared towards pre-health students.

Your GPA is low but it won't completely stop you, don't listen to people that say it's too low. I had a 2.91 overall and got 5/13 interviews + acceptance. Your DAT scores are good, but not great. You can check my stats if you want to compare. I've been hearing at interviews this year that DAT scores on average are way up, 20's are common. If I had your scores I would seriously consider a re-take, you can't boost your GPA much so your DAT needs to be stellar.

Some schools also view recent coursework (~2 years) heavily, so kick some butt! And be sure to boost everything else you can such as volunteer/shadow time, LOR's, etc...

Find the right schools, can't emphasize that enough.

Your science GPA makes up for your low cGPA. Science gpa is extremely important more so than cGPA, because, in dental school, your main courses will all be...science courses. In addition, your dat scores are good, so they reinforce your science gpa. OP needs to boost up his gpa, especially science, to at least 3.2-3.3.

He/She didn't even post the right DAT scores, they don't add up. So who knows what they actually got. (26 OC + 19 GC + 18 BIO = 21 TS) and it should be a 21 AA also.

TS is not the average of Bio+GC+OC 😀
You gotta recheck that.
AA 20 is correct (97<total Bio+GC+OC+RC+QR <103). His/her total is 100. divided by 5 is 20
