Can dogs get polio?

Hi all,

Are dogs susceptible to getting the poliovirus? I'm not sure if this belongs in this forum here (sorry if it isn't), but I don't know where else to ask. I tried Google and it was just a bunch of nothing.

Yes. Viruses can cross species. It is rare but it does occur.

Not really. There are no natural infections or reservoirs in animals that I can think of for the human poliovirus.

Obviously, if we are talking experimental infection and vaccine development, that's another story.
