My dad told me that while DO is an equivalent degree there's still a huge stigma in a lot of specialties and at a lot of top programs that won't take DOs into their residency. I was wondering what kind of board scores a DO needs to secure interview at top pod residencies? I've looked over their residents lists and can't find any DOs. As of now podiatry is one of my top choices and I'd love to integrate OMM into my practice but I'm worried I'll be looked at as inferior because of my degree.

Am I going to have to go OGME if I want pod?

Well obviously if your heart is dead set on podiatry residency, it is highly recommended that you take Podiatry Boards. Pod residency directors just aren't very familiar with COMLEX, they just simply don't know how to interpret your score. Moreover, as a general rule of thumb for DO students applying to Pod, your score has to be 5-10 points above other applicants to be considered competitive so make sure you murder that test.

It would also be beneficial for you to take a year off after after DO school and do a year long Pod research, hopefully you could squeeze out a couple publications by the time you apply. Even then, it's still not guaranteed that you will a get a spot.

Go with OMGE if you don't feel like jumping through these extra hoops, but let me warn you, these programs are subpar compared to the pod programs since most of them aren't university-based like those at UCSF, Stanford and Havard. OMGE trained pods have very limited opportunities post-residency, very few are allowed to work at the large academic hospitals and join big private practice groups; fellowship opportunities are non-existent.

PS: you would have been better off going to an MD/Pod school if you knew you wanted Pod from the start.

Why even waste the time doing the med school stuff to be a podiatrist. Go to podiatry school. Maybe I am missing something.

Considering in another thread I went off on a rant about people posting can DOs be XYZ specialties, which sparked responses from others including the OP. I'm assuming this is a parody. If not... who knows

You are an idiot.

This thread smacks of parody and sarcasm. Good one, OP! 👍

Real awesome. The only people who understand the joke are people on the inside. All the OP has done is confuse those that don't know what they're talking about even more.

It's not like this lazy-ass attempt at humor hasn't been done before. In the end it only succeeds in muddying the waters for YOUR career, no one else's.

What crawled up your ass? If you look a few threads down there was a discussion about can a DO match into XYZ specialty where threads like this were discussed. Anyone who knows anything about medicine should not be confused by this. How exactly does a thread like this muddy the waters for anyone's career? Those that don't know this is a joke should probably take a long look at how much they actually know about their future careers

Considering you called someone an idiot for not getting it, you don't have room to talk.

A lot of people come here who don't know much about medicine but want to learn. I was one of them about four years ago. I knew nothing, absolutely nothing about medicine, med school, DOs, or residencies. I came here to learn from others. Now I'm an MS1 and most of it is thanks to what I picked up on SDN.

Posts like these are "inside baseball," meaning that you might make your friends laugh, but countless people out there won't get it and will think you're serious. So in that case, why not just email your friends and let them laugh at you instead of making yourself a public tool?

I called someone an idiot for taking the time to write out a completely BS response that sounds genuine, thereby only serving to spread misinformation to some unsuspecting soul that may happen upon their post while trying to learn about the profession, idiot.

Yeah because that makes a lot of sense dude. Think long and hard why your logic may be failing you here.

I don't understand how not understanding this is a joke right away makes me an idiot either. People come on this site every hour and ask completely off the wall questions. Oh well. I get it now. Funny stuff.

It doesn't make you an idiot. That's part of my point. Even people that do know this stuff is BS don't even realize it's a joke. I didn't at first. And if you or I don't get it, imagine what your ***** uncle googling osteopathic medicine has to wade through.

(I'm not really calling your uncle a *****, just an example)

At least he used the search function.

Sorry you didn't care for it. Fact checking isn't that difficult on this topic. Good day.

I said good day. 👍
