Can endo/exocytosis be thought as active transport?

My thoughts:
Does endo/exocytosis require energy?- I assume so with all the vesicle transport and membrane fusion.

I read that:
Endocytosis = to bond/make etc REQUIRES energy
Exocytosis = to break, split etc RELEASES energy
I'm not really connection how endocytosis is making bonds and how exocytosis is breaking bonds.
In both, you would have to have membrane vesicle fusion, which probably have breaking/making of bonds...
Clarification would be appreciated.

Think about how 2 vesicles are fused. Remember that the surface of a lipid bilayers is hydrophillic while the interior is hydrophobic. It's much different from, say, fusing 2 droplets of oil or 2 droplets of water.
