I start med school this year and don't know a whole lot yet. I was wondering whether a general internist in private practice can hire PA's like someone with a family practice?

Thanks.

Any physician can hire PA's if they want to, doesn't matter which specialty they're in.

Thanks, I just have always thought of them working with family medicine docs.

There are PA's in every specialty, certainly not just family medicine. At the hospital I'm at, there are PA's working with CT surgery, BMT service, EP, oncology, lung transplant service, orthopedic surgery, etc. They are also starting a PA hospitalist service in the internal medicine department, where the PA's admit overflow patients, and IM hospitalists supervise them.

Interesting, I didn't know this.
