My question is;
Can I apply for more than one residency program in the match?
I mean for more than 1 specialty in different programs?

Yes, you can apply to every program in every specialty in the country if you want to pay the bill.

Doesn't it look bad to apply to more than one specialty? I've only heard of med students doing that when their first choice is a very competitive specialty (e.g. derm). Even then, i heard that it is not well received by residency programs. I'm not sure where i got this info though, so i certainly could have been misled.

Hi Dancelover; I posted that same question to the Dean of my school and he said that programs have no way of knowing what other residency programs you applied to UNLESS YOU TELL THEM. ERAS does not tell these programs what other programs/specialties you are applying to.

If the specialties are fairly similar, they may find out and not take your application seriously.

Some examples include people applying to Ortho and Gen Surgery at the same hospital or IM and FP at the same hospital.
