I would like to first thank everyone in advance. This is my first post but I’ve been looking at this website for a while and definitely appreciate the wealth of advice/information.

Unfortunately, I too did not get into Medical School this year. Therefore my dad feels it is best that I attend either Ross University or St. George's University but also re-apply to Texas Medical Dental School Application Service. My question, therefore, is whether any of you have gone through this path before or have seen a student go through this path before and whether or not you or they were successful? When re-applying to TMDSAS I will make sure to indicate to schools that I am not applying as a transfer student but instead will repeat my 1st year again. Do you think Texas Medical Schools will accept students who do this? Do you by chance know what percentage of students who do this get in? I guess the reason I would waist the year would be that it would give me a head start into the Medical curriculum and make my first year in a Texas Medical School easier. I know the TMDSAS asks whether I have attended Medical School or have been accepted to Medical School, so would it be better to lie and not indicate that I'm currently studying in the Carribeans? Although unethical, my heart has always been steadfast on becoming a doctor so that I can use medicine to help people.

Thanks in advance guys. It’s great seeing peers work together to help accomplish their dreams.

Hey
I don't usually post over here, but I saw your headline containing carib schools.
I went carib, and had a few friends that transferred. I also know of 1 person who did exactly what you are trying to do. The transferees all had exceedingly good board scores (93 and up). I know of one in texas, although he had some good connections in the dept, one to philly, and one in Louisiana. TX, andd LA (?) were both accepted directly into the program after their basic sciences (1st 2 yrs). The PA guy had to redo his 3rd year.

Now, the guy that got a US acceptance while enrolled at the carib. I hope your paid man, because this dude prolly spent about 30k doing all of this. Most carib schools are $$$ making institutions, and are quite hesitant to give you anything back once they get their claws into your wallet. Back to said applicant... he had 3.7, and a strong bio/phys sci MCAT score, but was weak in verbal. English was a 2nd lang, and I think his native country was Nigeria. He went to a reasonably good US undergrad (I think somewhere in cali, or TX), and had strong LOR's.

Anyhow, if I may insert my own opinion, you should really look inward if you think there is a possibility of staying carib 2-ary to non-acceptance US. If you're hell-bent on FP, or IM, then I'd say go for it. If you think you want to go into a more competetive field, then realize that you are at a disadvantage. You're only measurable standard is going to be your USMLE score. Now, after looking inward, if you find that you have trouble with standardized exams, then you need to exhaust all of your options b4 going carib.
1. Do a backdoor program, like the basic medical sciences degrees offered by many med-schools. Do very well, and make some connections.
2. Retake the MCAT, and get a MPH, or an MBA.
3. Do research IN THE MEDICAL SCHOOL so that you make the right connections.

G/L, and I hope this helps.

i know someone who did this: http://www.touro.edu/shs/biomed.asp#admireqs

i think you spend a year doing your first year med school at touro university on long island and you do the rest in technion university in israel which is probably one of the best technical universities in the world so i imagine they teach medicine well. i know two people who did the first year of med school through this program but re-applied during that year as well. one of them ended up going to mcgill (he's canadian) and his girlfriend is at a SUNY school. they had average MCAT scores for people who get into med school. they had to do their first year again at the schools they transfered to but it was easy since they did it at touro. so that's another option. i'm not sure how much it costs but i know it's not that competitve.

Lying isn't going to help you. If they find out the consequences are dire. Transferring ismore realistic then trying to hoodwink adcoms. I haven't heard of people who have successfully accomplished what you are wanting to achieve. That doesn't mean it can't be done.

I would wait a year, do something to boost your app, and reapply ... Also find out WHY you were rejected.

Thanks for the advice guys. If anyone else has had any experience with my dilema, please let me know. If you have any personal questions, please feel free to private message me.

I think it is unethical to do this. Automatic bye bye if the US school finds out.
