Can I do well on the DAT with these courses?

I'm a post-bac student taking prereqs and would like to apply for dental school next year if it's possible. By the end of August 2011, I will have completed:

3 quarters of bio
3 quarters of physics
3 quarters of chem
3 quarters of orgo
1 quarter of microbiology

Will completing these courses and using some DAT prep material be enough to be successful on the test? Will taking additional courses like anatomy, histology or biochem help? Thanks🙂

EDIT: Will taking the DAT in August or September put me at a disadvantage for getting interviews? I know it's best to apply early, but I need to finish orgo before taking the exam

The courses you have mentioned above are fine. Of course taking extra courses like histology or biochem will help (esspecially biochem), but its only going to help the biology section, so its not like its going to make THAT much of a difference

If the last set of courses you'll be taking will be done by around august, how are you going to take the test on august still? I am guessing you need a good solid 6 weeks to prepare for the test, meaning you'll be taking the test mid-september at the earliest. IMO, once you get out of July and you don't have a DAT, you are no longer an early applicant, and this DOES put you at a disadvantage

Thanks for the reply. Realistically my best shot to apply is 2012, but if I can apply next year (even though I'd take the DAT in Aug/Sept) and manage to get accepted somewhere then I'd be thrilled.

After I finish summer quarter in '11, I would take another quarter of microbiology, two of anatomy and biochem, and maybe histology.

I guess my point is that I'd rather save myself a year of time and apply next year rather than finish all prereqs and upper division courses in two years, then go through the application process for another year.
