I am in second year, and I have done well in my classes until now. (rank: 2/63)

As most MSIIs, I am trying to figure out a plan to review for step I.

Even though I love what I study, I actually spend a lot of time doing other sorts of things (I teach piano, read a lot, do community work, etc).

Is there anyone out there who can tell me how much time -how many hours a day- I have to invest in preparing for step I? I do want to get a -at least- a competitive score.

Thanks.🙂

Lola,
Most people spend about 8 hours/day 6 days per week for about a month. The people who acheived very high scores usually spent more time than that. You can have a life while you study, but don't plan any long weekend trips away, extended houseguests, etc.
Good Luck!

for a very high score (which you should shoot for, given your class rank), figure 10-12 hours/day, 7 days per week, for 4-6 weeks.

I agree, unless you have a photographic memory expect to not have a life for the month of Step 1 studying if you want a very good/great score. Its unfortunate, but its a lot of crap to review in a months time. Good luck!

Depends how much time you have to study for it. Our school actually gives us 8 weeks. Based on this I did about 7 weeks, 8 hours/day, 6 days/week. I put in my 8 hours a day then ran, played basketball, went out with friends, and basically drank 4-5 nights out of the week. If you have stuff in the daytime, just study your 8 hours at night. If you don't do the outside stuff you'll probably go insane anyway. Oh, and I did pretty well on Step 1.
