I got accepted in a program but I really want to go to UOP? is it possible to go to the school and apply for uop the next cycle? or you should commit to the program for the 4 years?

Thank you:luck:

Transferring between schools is really tough, and depends on how many spots that school has open (not many, or any sometimes). UOP is 3 years, why would you pay tuition somewhere then transfer to UoP where you might have to start from fresh(I dont know what kinda of courses they accept). I would either go to the school you're thinking about attending now and dont look back or just wait and apply next cycle.

I believe that once you are committed to going to a particular school, you will not be allowed to apply again for the following cycle. I would think that all the dental schools do communicate through AADSAS. I know that for the med schools, they communicate through AMCAS and once you are enrolled (or deferred), you are forbidden to apply the following year.

Perhaps you can consider transferring schools, but I wonder if the curriculums (4yr vs 3yr) are too different.

I live 10 min away from UOP and I love the school but they said my application gpa is .05 lower 😡 . and I havent taken any classes this semester. but I already have accepted in a program , I dont know if I want to go. at least the last 3 years i d be in sf close to home😕

If it means that much to you to stay near home, then you should improve your application so you can get into UoP next cycle. You technically dont have anything to lose bc if you attend the other school, you'd still finish in 2014.

Except that the OP may not get into UOP next cycle. I'd go to the program that you're already accepted to hands down.

with whatever school you got into you could try to defer till next yr for UofP BUT there is no guarantee that you will get in if you apply next yr and then one yr wasted when you could of started awhile ago.

Take your acceptance just my 2 cents👍

Unless you definitely hate the other program, I think you should think carefully about this. Transferring to a different dental school while you are already in one is hard. If you decline the program you are accepted into, there's no guarantee that you will get into UoP the next year. Not to mention that every year, more and more people are applying to dental schools and the competition is getting harder. Just a suggestion: make a list of positive things about the school you got accepted into. Maybe that make help you make a decision. Best of luck!

thank you sooooo much everyone:luck:
I will def ask the school to see if they will let me do so.
these are what I got from the school I got into in oppose to UOP:
1-cheap city to live in compare to SF
2-very very friendly and safe enviornment compare to SF
3-high tech same as UOP
4-new school(small though)
5-it s cost abot 400k as oppose to 300k
6-2 hours flight from the closest person i know🙄
7-nice weather always hot SF is really cold in winter.
8-I can own a car.( in SF little bit harder. cost $28 to parking lots.)
9-4 years 😳🙁 as 3 years in UOP
10-UOP location is AWSOMMMMMMMMEEEEEEE. just beatifulllll compare to my school🙁
just tell me what you would do?

Haha its really cold in the winter! I would just go to the school you got into this year to avoid the absolute pain of transferring, plus lets be realistic, the chances are slim of actually being able to transfer. This just sounds like a silly plan to me.

i dont think you understand how difficult it is to go to dental school. the work load is insane. you don't want to go through the same courses over again, once you finish a class you just want to move on.

I posted early, but I wanted to add on something. The reality is that no matter what dental school you end up going to, you're going to be a dentist. Overall, I think you're going to have a good dental education wherever you go. It's how you make of it. I don't know if you want to waste a year in dental school to start over at UoP. If you do that, you're going to end up doing 4 years work of dental school. In your case, I really don't think 4 years or 3 years is relevant. Anyhow, good luck with your decision.

my opinion is that going to a dental school just to start another dental school the following year is beyond ******ed.

i kinda hate to agree w/ dent std but he's right. pretty dumb move. turn down the acceptance OP. if you want to go to UOP that bad, kill the dat and sit out a year. if you're going to be miserable at school....dont go. otherwise, be thankful that you got accepted anywhere and get on board with the program that took you when your fav didn't. their loss right!

so.. let me get this straight...

First off, if you attend this school for a year with no intentions of finishing, you are taking someone elses spot... a spot that cannot be filled after you bail out after a year.

Second, none of the classes you take will transfer. you will basically be wasting your time and money to take a full year of dental classes (and keep in mind how difficult it would be to stay on top of things if you were traveling for interviews, etc.) for no reason.

So really, I think it's pointless and a waste of time. a dental school is a dental school.

I don't see a point in doing this...UOP is great because you're done in 3 years but it's also one of the most expensive D schools in the country....and you'd be done in 4 years if you transferred, thus making it pointless in terms of time. Like the person above me posted, you'd also be cheating someone else out of a spot....

I really see no positives in what you're trying to do..but good luck..?

First off, I'm guessing the mystery "other school" is Midwestern. Hot, new, expensive school=MWU. OP- There is someone on SDN, his/her username is peerless218, that was in your situation last year. He/she turned down an admission to Western last year because they really wanted UoP, and reapplied and was accepted into UoP this year. Thats the guy/girl you need to be talking to IMO.

You're ripping yourself off financially. UoP is only 3 years but the price tag is more than 4 years at a different university. Are you willing to pay ~50K for the first year at some other school then pay full tuition at UoP? (Assuming everything went smoothly with transferring). Sounds like a huge waste of money, time, and frustration. Take your guaranteed spot at whatever school accepted you. 10 years down the line it's not going to matter which D school you went to anyway.

very good advice.

Except that the OP may not get into UOP next cycle. I'd go to the program that you're already accepted to hands down.

Admissions standards rise every year. If you couldn't get into UoP this year, chances are you wouldn't get in next year, unless you retook and destroyed the DAT. Not worth the risk.

well uop hasent rejected me yet, they put a hold on my application saying they r waiting for my courses in fall (which I havent taken any) so saying that Im assuminghe it s a rejection. thank you everyone though for your opinion. I just paid the deposite for MWU. I think that was the right thing to do based on everyone's idea and also considering the competition each year. :luck:

Take the acceptance, its the only guarantee of you becoming a dentist. On top of that, peerless was interviewed and placed on the alternate list at UOP. If you are rejected, it does not give you any better of a chance next year when you apply. Peerless was re-applying having already known his odds of acceptance would be dramatically higher as he had already been interviewed and that matters at a school like UOP. Stick to MWU and become a dentist.

why do we make things so difficult😕
you apply to dental school; check
you interview and spend hundreds of dollars; check
you wait and get the acceptance; check
you attend out of your choice (s) of acceptances; check

you only re-apply if you did not get in anywhere

not turn down your acceptance and re-apply again; 👎

Thank you so much. yaeah ill move to AZ😛 hope to find good friends there :luck:

I did the same thing you're thinking about doing last year. The only difference is, I interviewed for a waitlist and made the waitlist at UOP. If you don't have that, I wouldn't really gamble to reapply again.

Sorry, what do you mean you "interviewed for a waitlist"? I just applied to UoP and am waiting to hear from them about an interview.

I think what he/ she meant is that they invite him for an interview for the waitlist, not for the certain spots. by this time probably they will have their class filled 80% but some might turn down or attend other schools despite the fact they paid deposite, these are the waitlist interviews I think, well again peerless knows better,:luck:

Sorry, what do you mean you "interviewed for a waitlist"? I just applied to UoP and am waiting to hear from them about an interview.

Interviewed for a waitlist means they called me and told me that I will be interviewing for a waitlist instead of a SPOT. Waitlist means their class is full but they're waiting to see who will be turning down the offer for other schools before they can accept more students. If there are spots open, then they will start picking the waitlisters off the list.

UOP is probably the only school that I know that value their waitlist students so much. At all the other schools(might be other exceptions,) if you're on the waitlist and didn't get in. You start from groud zero as a nobody the following cycle. For Pacific, if unfortunately you didn't make the class you interviewed for, your chance of being accepted the following cycle WITHOUT an interview is I would say a lot higher. And that's what happend to me this cycle. Of course, it's NOT a guarntee spot as I was told on many occasaions by admissions, but it does help  I am going to San Fran!!!

Thank you soooo much for the explanation. I would love to live in San Fran and do 3 years instead of 4. Congrats on your acceptance!! 🙂

Thanks, good luck to you at Midwestern. Had I got into Midwestern last year, I would've gone instead of waiting for another year. You'll like it!!

I think if you tried this, you would find it difficult to be accepted anywhere because you are showing a lack of commitment a school you have been at for a year already. This could make schools weary of accepting you....
