Hi ,

I am in second year student in a dental school in India. I want to get a US degree. What are my options. I do not have a green card.

Do I have to finish my degree here first?
Is there an option to join third year in US in a DDS program?

I would appretiate your help.

Thanks

I have never heard of anyone coming in to the US in the 3rd year. You have to finish your degree first.

this is the most childish, juvenile, immature and ridiculous thing i have seen on the forum.Atleast do SOME research on the threads before posting such questions.

Dear krindc,
Sorry that I can't help either,as La fea said,I too haven't heard anybody doing that. I know in the same country[I'm talking abt India],u can do that in extreme situations, but otherwise, transferring from one country to another, esp US,not sure.
You may check it online,or probably someone who knows better may reply.
Otherwise the best is to complete your degree there & get into US & take the tests here ,as every other foreign trained dentist does.
Sorry, thats all I know. Hope u find a better answer & good luck with ur studies!👍

Hi Friends,
I am a Dentist with DDS degree, planning to move to Canada soon as a Permanane Resident.
I will become a Canada PR in 2010.So I Should Take Prior Learning Assesment for getting Admission from a Canada Dental School.I am not Confident enough regarding my handskills and I am not sure whether I will be able to pass ACS(Assesment Of Clinical Skills) with a geed Grade thus managing to get application from a Canada Dental School. So, I am thinking of applying To a routine 4 year-DDS program in one of Canada Dental Schools.Could you possibly help me with my followinh Qs?

1.Am I eligible to apply to a Canada Dental School's Routine DDS program or not?(regarding the fact that I am Already a dentist).

2.Can I then Apply for Loans for the full period of my Study(as a Permanent Resident of Canada)?

Any Recommendation would be welcome.:luck:

Not a bad plan while keeping in view the present scenario, most of the foreign trained fresh graduates/ dentists are trying this route also.
You have to take DAT

Loans would not be any problem if you will have a co - signer in North America

Dear Kal Ka Dentist,
Thanks a Lot For your response.🙂

1.Are you sure I should take DAT?(considering the fact that I am already a Dentist holding a DDS degree).

2.I am Not a fresh Graduate.I graduated in 2002.I worked for a while (about 2 years)but due to some personal problems I have been far from the Dentistry world for several years.Could it be an obstacle during my admission process?
Thanks a Bunch🙂
Good Luck:luck:

As far as admissions to Advanced Standing Programs is concerned, from the year 2010, we are about to enter unknown territory. ADA is changing the format and eligibility for National Boards. This is discussed elsewhere in this forum, I urge you to look at it.

You have time on your hands. So I strongly recommend you to take the wait and watch approach. Keep checking on this forum as the issue will be discussed and dissected by candidates in the future.

What you can/should/better be doing at this point in time is to get as good grades as you possibly can. Your BDS GPA cannot be changed. Where ever possible present papers in conferences and participate in health education programs. If possible, during school breaks, try to observe in clinics.

Lastly, if you have any literary, artistic, musical talent pursue it.

In most if not all of the US schools, the curriculum from one year to the next is a continuum. That maybe why transfers especially between countries is not possible. Dental education is taught in relation to what the current practices are in a society/ country(you will understand this as you proceed in your dental education and beyond).
