I know that medical schools want you to list all the college classes you have taken. However, I want to take orgo over the summer for practice so I can do extra well during the school year, but I don't want anyone to know. Is this possible?

A lot of community colleges don't offer it. I go to a flagship state school, and I was gonna take orgo at one of its branches. However, I don't know if that's too risky. Will it automatically show up on my transcript? Also, how likely is it that they will find out?

Why not just sit through the class and do the assigned homework.

Yes, it will show up.

Are there 200+ students in the summer orgo class? Are there extra seats in class? Does the professor take attendance?

Hmmm...that's actually a good idea, I will look up the course info.

Of course I'm going to sit through class and do the assigned homework. That might not be enough for an A though, esp since I will have a very busy schedule.

Oh I see, that makes sense. What if I did it under my mom's name? She could be the one registering...

This whole concept seems really tedious and frankly unnecessary.

I am going to be taking Orgo I and II over the summer. In preparation, I plan to read Organic Chemistry as a Second Language and review some concepts from general chemistry. I think this should suffice.

If you're not the type of person who can learn without lecture (I don't mean that pejoratively), then your best bet would be to sit in on the summer session. You'll blend right in.

How did you do in General Chemistry? Why are you so worried about this class?

What the heck is this? Just buy an organic chemistry textbook and read it, or better yet, go to your campus library which likely has Ochem textbooks for free. Just read that. You don't need to listen to someone lecture about Ochem.

Best idea I've ever heard on SDN

Ask the professor if he'll let you sit-in on the course. You just get to come to lectures, but don't receive a grade and aren't technically "taking" the course.

That said, this is stupid. Just take the course, keep up with the material and study. You'll do fine, just like thousands of others have done before you.

honestly orgo is not as difficult as many people make it out to be. you just need to put sufficient time and effort into understanding the concepts

Are you planning to do this before every class in med school too? Am I the only one here who thinks that "keeping it a secret" is dishonest? If I took every class twice before being graded of course I'd do better, but it wouldn't really be a realistic showing of my abilities, and I'd run into a LOT of trouble when I could only take classes once.
