Hello everyone,

Can I please get a second opinion about my list of dental schools to apply to with my following stats:

AA - 21
TS - 22
PA - 21
QR - 16
RC - 21
Bio - 24
GC - 21
OC - 21

Undergrad oGPA is 3.38 and sGPA is 3.40
Master's in Neurobiology GPA is 3.55
I have 1 Publication as second author
Okay Extra Curricular activities from undergrad - Not much community service but founder of a club.
I have 80 shadowing hours

My list: Tennessee, Louisville, MUSC, BU, Tufts, Roseman, Western, Creighton, Temple, Case, Lecom, Maryland, Nevada, Pittsburgh, USC.

I appreciate any opinions. Thanks!

You need to get at least 20 more shadowing hours. Your stats are average so you need to find a way to make them stand out, LOR's and your PS should be top notch. I'm guessing from your Okay that you really don't have much for EC's. It's still worth a shot to apply but just go into it knowing that from what you have posted here, nothing is really WOW. School list is reasonable for your stats.

I think you dat is going to open doors for you. I would take out some of the bad schools tufts, roseman, western temple Lecom, unlv. Apply to better schools. Apply to Columbia I know several students with 20s that got in.

Have you checked with some of the schools on the list whether they would accept that 16 on QR? Because that sounds too low to me even for QR... Other than that, I think you are all set and should hear some good news come December.
Yes I called some of the schools on my list and they said my DAT scores are fine. I have heard from many people that schools do not care too much about the QR score as long as other scores are fine. I hope this is true..

Just out of curiosity why do you consider Western, Temple, and Tufts as bad schools? Is it anything other than tuition?

What year did you apply to dental school?

why do you think roseman, lecom, unlv are "bad" schools? private and expensive? thanks

Don't stress about the 16 qr, I also got a 16 qr and a 17gchem haha.. 8 interviews and 8 acceptances, actually 9 interviews but I turned one down.. I would try and get 20 more hours of shadowing if you can but you'll be fine as long as you interview well. Your stats reminded me of mine so I thought I'd share.

Here are my stats in case you're interested:
AA=21
TS=21
PAT=21
RC=23
QR=16
Bio=24
Ochem=25
Gen Chem=17

oGPA:3.63
sGPA:3.58
Shadow hours:100
Service hours:2,000+
Job experience: I actually work with undergraduate admissions offices at Universities around the country and help them with their recruitment both internationally and domestically.

Hey thats great! Congrats on your success and thanks for your thoughts! I hope I have a similar outcome. Judging from my low GPA, I am a bit worried.

I had similar stats, I would take off MUSC.
The main reason I am applying to MUSC is because I am instate for S.Carolina and I have lots of research and some volunteer experience at MUSC. Would you still suggest I take it off the list? Thanks.

your original list is very fair OP. and while columbia might be a stretch, i'd say to apply there anyway. they favor DAT more than anything, but your gpa is on the lower side for them. i'll tell you point blank that you'll probably get into NYU at least with those stats so as soon as you can
