Can I reach my goals with an Ed.S.? What about an Ed.D.?

Hi, all!

I'm currently in a Clinical PhD program, but I don't feel like it's going to get me where I need to be. I entered the program with a strong desire to do research on children with disabilities and now I've fallen in love with the clinical/intervention side of things. My program doesn't have many opportunities for me to work with kids with disabilities, and I especially want to work in a school setting (which I hear is nearly impossible to do with a clinical degree).

I'm thinking an Ed.S. or an Ed.D. would more suit my desires. I'd like to design and run educational interventions for kids with ID and physical disabilities. I feel these degrees would be better for reaching that goal. Can I do this with this degree? Would I be better off doing something else?

Thanks!

Have you looked into school psychology at all? I would imagine the types of work you've mentioned would be well-served by that field. As an added bonus, many departments that offer clinical psych degrees also have school psych programs, and switching from one to the other isn't unheard of.

I could be mistaken, but I believe Ed.* degrees may be more geared toward school-wide administration.
