Two years ago, i quit a family medicine residency after completing a year and half because i got sick and i couldn't handle the stress. I then switched to a non-clinical residency which i will finish by september.
I now want to go back into family medicine but i feel my clinical skills are not stong enough to enter a PGY-2 position.
I am considering scrambling for an intern positions this year or matching next year.
My question is: is it even possible to repeat the intern year in family medicine or do i have to go for a second year position only?

😱

You need to take a breather here! Never make a drastic life changing decision like this without proper thought and preparation. It would be like jumping out of a plane without a parachute. Come back in 6 months and ask yourself if this post of yours has even an iota of rationality in it! If so, do the PGY 2 in Family Practice. I'd rather read Harrison's cover to cover two times over in the interim than redo a PGY1 year. Repeating a residency is bad enough, having to repeat internship is inconceivable.

Yes, you absolutely can repeat your PGY-1. Sometimes you only need 6 months to refresh -- you would need to look for an offcycle spot (i.e. perhaps someone else drops out in the middle of the year. There are funding issues, but that will be true of any further training you do.

The above negativity aside, I do agree that you need to look at the situation and determine whether things have changed in your own life that would make restarting an FM residency do-able. New duty hour rules have changed the landscape, but it's still busy/crazy.
